Well not to be an ass or anything, but does that mean that China should have more top athletes considering that they have like 1/4 of the worlds population. Listen to what you are saying. Really makes you seem either uneducated or seriously oblivious to reality. Its not about population, its about history. America has more elite athletes because the people are allowed to persue what makes them happy easier and are supported in whatever they may do. I in no way am saying that we have "better" athletes, just more top tier athletes. I know there are some sportsmen in the UK that are considered to be the best in the world at what they do. Just like in the U.S.A. And to be perfectly honest, you should be proud to be in one way or another associated to the U.S.A. At one point, your great, great, great, great grandfathers or relatives have decided to group together and set forth on making a free country for their loved ones and persisted until they stepped foot on our land and called it their own. That should mean something. I for one am proud as hell of my European roots at one point and have all kinds of respect for the old country. What I am saying is that we should really embrace each other and forget about anything surrounding the revolution, because we are really brothers when you look into it deep enough.

China is closer to 1/6th of the world population firstly.
China has a totally different culture overall, and especially so in sports. Secondly China had a massive poverty level, most were and still are in rural area's in low income to poverty stricken rural area's. There's dramatically low investment or resources.

Even as the economy has boomed there's been an increase in in-equality levels. There's restrictions on rural to urban migration, so much of the population are stuck in low income, to poverty stricken rural area's where there's simply little to no sports. That dramatically lowers the population even playing sports of any kind, let alone similar ones, or at high levels.
