Because Boxing is a fringe sport in the US

All the big kids are in the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA

The last real hyped american heavyweight contender was Micheal Grant and that was almost 10years ago. I think the last very good young american heavyweight was Bowe.

I'll give you the ONE and ONLY reason: AMERICAN FOOTBALL. The best American Heavyweight is running down the field on one of the NFL teams.

There's a more logical reason than that...

The "they go into other sports" argument has always been a bit of a copout if you ask me.

Let's see who gets it first.

Kids don't see boxing much now a days or don't know where a boxing gym is at to go train.. They get involved in other sports before trying boxing they find they are good at it and don't have to get hit in the face for a living and stay..
There's a couple of boxing gyms here in Vegas but only few actually put the effort in to make you a better fighter and get you going in the AMs. The rest are just worried about keeping their doors open and making money.. Their trainers suck too and rarely know what they are talking about.

World population is 6 billion. The US has 300 million, 1/20 of the world's population.

So it makes perfect sense that not all the top heavyweights would be from the US...

Professional boxing was not permitted in the Soviet Union, but now they are free to do whatever they want. So better fighters are emerging from Eastern Europe - from what I understand, the next generation of boxers from the former Soviet republics will be even better.

You can't really say that it's a cop out.. it could be true. No one really knows.. You will provide your reason and it will hold just as much weight as his because it's just an opinion.
