The reason for the decline of American heavyweights?

I have my own personal views on this, that I will share after I have gathered the general consensus of Americans as to why their nation no longer succeeds with the big boys.

I want this to be a thread that contains real, honest discussion, not hate on different nations/cultures.

Its interesting pre 90's the American heavyweight scene had great strength and depth, there was so many top american heavyweights there were always periods where it was a bit weak 50's and 20's for instance but nothing at all like it is now.

Exactly, I'm just interested to get other peoples idea as to why...

There is a perfectly logical and reasonable explanation for this, I think, but I just want to see what other people think before I post it.

Recruitment, might have a huge effect on it. The big boys are going into different sports (football, basketball).

They eat too much and there is no Super Heavyweight division for them to go to.

People often say that this is a load of rubbish but it is partly true imo, if you have a lot of big guys going into different sports its going to have an effect, in every single decade i can name a top American heavyweight i couldn't name one good modern American heavyweight. Its kinda strange that the kids growing up watching a young Tyson didn't get into the sport

Everyone is in the NFL. **** if we didn't lose guys to the NBA, we'd dominate welterweight and up easily. Look at guys like Iverson and Kobe and tell me they wouldn't excel at boxing.

Yep, athletes with size go elsewhere.
