manchine... what about my post.... the fact that roy never looked for the KO.... i think the difference in mind sets in the ring between tommy and roy makes tommy look like the much harder hitter p4p... because roy carried fighters and tommy knocked them out... does that necessarily mean tommy had more power?I think the reason its hard to give it to roy.. is because roy didnt go for the KO like hearns did.... i have no doubt in my mind... that roy could of KOed almost every damn fighter he faced if he really wanted too... i think he could of even knocked ruiz out, if he really wanted to go all out... its just not his style...
but hearns had a lot more killer instinct in the ring.. so his KO record makes you believe he has more power...
he may or may not...i just felt with the HW bid roy did.. and stunning a heavyweight, gave it to roy for me... but obviously hearns has great points to be a harder hitter as well...Comment

Do you think he was always very wary of this?
No fighter likes getting hit, but Roy always gave the impression he was scared of it more than you should be if you want a career in the fight game.
It was almost as though he had too much talent not to fight, but he didn't really want to risk getting hit so he didn't really open up and finish guys off.Comment

bringing up what happened when he was 35, is redundant.Roy got KO'd by Tarver and Johnson.

obviously thats roys game, hit and not get hit... seems reasonable to me.
when you explain what all that has to do with whose a more powerful puncher... than ill take your post into consideration...Last edited by THE REED; 06-05-2008, 12:24 PM.Comment

I dunno, it's not like Hearns was fighting great opposition at cruiserweight. Ruiz gets a lot of criticism but he was much better than Hearns' cruiserweight opponents.
Then again Ruiz was KO'd in one round by David Tua.
Then again Tua hit really ****ing hard.
Hmm, I can see both sides of the argument...Comment

Even though Jones didn't go for the knockout often, he was more of a speed equals power kind of guy, he normally caught his opponents without them seeing the punch because he was so fast and punched at awkward angles.
I think Hearns had more natural, raw power.Comment

It's got nothing to do with it, I was responding to your post saying he didn't try to KO people.
I apprecciate that the game is hit and not get hit, but trying to name another fighter who appeared as scared as roy did is damn near impossible.
I also wasn't using the Tarver and Johnson KO's to make any point other than "do you think he was always wary of this happening?"
I'm suprised by this, your posts are usually unbiased and well thought out, whereas this one took my comments out of context and came across as somewhat aggressive.Comment

Alright well I apologize if i came across in that way, as I didnt mean too.... im just used to people responding to anything i have to say about roy... with "ANTONIO TARVER AND GLEN JOHNSON... enough said"It's got nothing to do with it, I was responding to your post saying he didn't try to KO people.

I dont think Roy ever looked "scared" in his prime? In Tarver III, I would definitely say is the first time in his career where he literally showed reluctance, and fear of getting caught... and rightfullly so, hed just been floored twice in a row...Comment
