Gary Lockett is not your average fighter. He doesn't like being a fighter and says he is not in love with the sport of boxing. He considered retirement several times during his career and even as early as nine-months ago, he was thinking about retirement after watching all of his teammates from the Calzaghe gym receiving opportunities while he was being ignored. Now he faces WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik on Saturday in Atlantic City. [details]

Well, thats good. After this weekend, he'll pretty much have to retire, after Pavlik is done with him... -
Sometimes a fighter is over-matched in terms of ability, but a part of you thinks that he has a chance, because he wants it more than the other guy. Douglas wanted it more than Tyson, Mr T wanted it more than Rocky etc. but Lockett doesn't seem to have that inner strength or that hunger.
I just cannot think of any reason that Lockett can win this. He has decent power but doesn't hit as hard as Pavlik. He's significantly smaller, he has a shorter reach, he's less confident, even though he's older he has less meaningful experience. I wish him all the best but it's not looking good for him.Comment

Co-sign. The pre-fight hype has me wantin to see Lockett hold his own and do well in the underdog role, but he's gonna get whomped.Sometimes a fighter is over-matched in terms of ability, but a part of you thinks that he has a chance, because he wants it more than the other guy. Pavlik does go down and Lockett does hit hard.
If Pavlik is not worried, he has underestimated Gary and could well find himself on the next bus back to Youngstown without his titles.
I doubt it, but there is danger in underestimating your opponent.Comment

Pretty harsh his first decent shot, is one where he's heavy underdog and likely to get a severe lesson, beating, and confidence knock. If your struggling to get fights and do reasonably well in the game, that's not what you need lol.Comment

his power at 54 was good. 60 is a whole different anial.Comment
