I agree. I was sure he would be one of the boxers to walk away from the sport being financially secure. Then again, supporting nine kids will eat away at your money pretty quick.

This is a good lesson for all the younger members of the Boxing Forum. Be responsible in your social life.

Fighters fight. Rare is the fighter who can think ahead to the next 40+ years of minimal income. Dangit. Managers should have this as part of the things they offer and guide fighters about.

As sad as it is, pro athletes (especially fighters) are a different than you or I when it comes to a desire for security. They don't make life plans or "play it safe" with their finances as easily. They are all about fighting for everything, fame, glory and whatnot.

I doubt anyone who gets into prize fighting is thinking about settling down with a mortgage, they dream of making big money and spending big money.

They want $10m homes and 9 kids...

Dont this guys learn anything? Geroge foreman 10 KIDS.....Mayweather 4 KIDS already? God
to be fair, mayweather is 30, having any amount of kids in my book is ok AS LONG AS you maintain the financial stability to support it. holyfield had every oppurtunity to support all those little ones, but blew it away for whatever reason, i feel no sympathy for him.

As a favorite fighter,Evander was second only to Ali...to me.

But as a man outside of the ring,Holyfield leaves much to be desired.
Whatever happens to him now,so be it...it's all his own doing.

You have to respect Lewis for his commitment to retirement.

It doesnt matter how much money you make...

When it comes to keeping money it doesn't matter how much money you make its how much money you keep and it will always be easier to spend money then it is to make money.

There are enough excuses on the books already for why Mayweather wont fight the best.

Look and tyson, Holyfield, and countless other boxers who have given thier blood sweat and tears just to end up broke and brain damaged. Yea he fought all comers but god damn look where hes ended up. Just some food for thought when people bash boxers who are actually smart with thier money and see boxing as a means to future success in other industries. Thats how its done. You can box till ur about 34 then what??? People say whos that guy as they pass them by on the street or in a hardware store. Situations like this make it all to clear that people box as a job, as a means for income. People bring up the great ray robinson and say how he fought almost 200 fights. You know why???? because he would have been broke otherwise. Yes he took pride in what he did, but when it came down to it he fought for money to put food on the table and a roof over his head. Anything more is a golden extra topping.

                    Holyfield smart? That's a contradiction.

I don't feel sympathy for Evander, I feel for his kids. Not only is he not paying his child support but I doubt ol boy is around too much. I forget how many different women he fathered children with but it was definitely a number higher than 1.
