You can say Gatti would have beaten Gamache regardless but the fact is if he hadnt STARVED himself to make weight they would have never fought anyway therefore can you say Gatti would have always destroyed a natural 147 lber who was decent, no.
no disrespect.................but you were a kid........height and reach are called advantages................they aren't advantages............have you ever known a boxer to starve themselves personally????........like you saw them everyday......you knew their routine and stuff.............many boxers do starve themselves.........i would think at some point every boxer does....you have a select few who are lucky enough to already be around fighting weight like hop, floyd, j.m.m..................but it isn't like starving to the point that you hurt yourself.......physically........

If they had weigh-ins say 6-8 hours before a fight then fighters who drained themselves would be at a disadvantage against more natural fighters in that class, then and only then will you know who real champs are. Oscar starving himself all those years and then coming into the ring insanely bigger as he was already way taller than everyone, gave him an even greater advantage. Just think, had Oscar started at his more natural weight of 147 he would never be in the HOF. Just my thoughts.
      what r you sayin here?

With every action there is a reaction,

Draining weight may cause fatigue faster and minor loss in strength.

I say in the end it evens out

Doesnt even out, it would even out if you fought within a few hours of the weigh in but they are given well over 24 hours to replenish with nutrients and eat.

I was 18 when I stopped, I know all about making weight and I never STARVED which means not eating or being a vegetarian to do so. Yes Ive known boxers my age who did it, its very well known, even as young as 15 doing it. I know a guy 16 now who is 6'0 and starves himself to fight at 139.
