    Ugh.

    Speed = the rate of change in position expressed as distance/time
    Power = average work done, or energy transfered / time
    Strength = ability of person to exert force on objects
    Accuracy = degree of conformity in measure quantity to it's true value.

    Therefore speed = power.

    More speed = more power.

    Period.

    In terms of BOXING Accuracy and timing beat all of the above.
    Yeh your right! Ali had probably the fastest jab in heavyweight history, so he was KOing people left,right and centre was he?

    the average person gets very confused when trying to apply the laws of physics to boxing. it is more complicated than you realise.

      My physics is a bit rusty but power does not equal speed.............or Ali and Holmes would be two of the great heavyweight punchers!

      Add mass to the equation and you have.............Force ( ie of punch )= acceleration x mass. (I think this is the correct rearrangement of an old formula).

      Think of mass as size and weight, add good technique, and you have power with even poxy acceleration (speed)! Hence George Foreman!!!!!

      Power is a measure of how quickly work can be done. THAT'S IT. Every other definition is wrong. Look it up.

      Power = ( Distance/Time) * Mass

      Mass is where Foreman came in. But for all intents and purposes, Speed = power according to this equation unless Mass is puny.

      You can relate it to distance/time. What is distance over time? Basically speed. Or more correctly "Average Speed"
      ====

      Acceleration = rate of change in velocity / time
      Mass = well, mass

      So you are right, but not talking about the same things exactly.

      Maybe we should change the term to a boxer having a lot of hard Force instead of power....

          I'm sorry but that phrase is beyond a cliche on this forum. In every thread at least one ****er is guaranteed to say it.

              You guys are ******ed. Timing can eliminate the speed advantage from a fast guy.
              It's a mix between power + speed and timing that gets you the win though.

              If a speed advantage was better then a power advantage then Malignaggi should have beat Cotto but didn't.

                There is a perfect mix of both imo. You could be super powerful but really slow or super fast and not powerful enough, but a good combination of decent power and good speed is better than just one or the other.

                In the end of course it is skills and smarts to use your attributes against your opponents to win which is what wins most fights.

                    Exactly, you can neutralize their speed if you are a good boxer. Look at Mayweather-Judah, Zab was faster but once Mayweather got the timing right...

                      Actually Ali used to pick the round in which he would KO people earlier in his career. He slowed down after the 3 year break from boxing and his speed and power diminished after that, but the man could **** when he was young, and was even able stop iron chinned Foreman when he was older.
