    speed + accuracy= power,
look at Floyd, not the greatest power in the world, but fast and on point with his shots, hatton is a prime example

yeah but even that can be defeated ... hatton basically folded
mayweather is not that hard of a puncher. hatton just got fed
up and basically quit in his mind way before that shot landed.
the shot just gave him an excuse ....

I think they are both as important as the other. Speed is very good but if those shots don't hurt you at all (Malignaggi) then you can walk through them, and land harder shots and maybe get the KO.

That said if you have power and a guy with speed just keeps hitting you with combos (Calzaghe-Lacy) your power is nullified.

Both are important, it really depends upon what other attributes that fighter has. Some people would be better suited to have one attribute but another guy the opposite.

you may think these punches are slaps but they have enough snap to hurt his opponent even if they don't knock him cold

At the professional level there isnt a such thing as punches not hurting. If Malignaggi's couldnt punch, N'dou would have just ran across the ring in the first fight and walked thru those punches and mauled Paulie.

Well PURE POWER! Vs PURE SPEED speed wins. In the pavlik taylor case pavlick was the harder puncher as well as just a better fighter, However if two fighters of equal skill fight, One powerfull the other fast, Id give the advantage to the fast fighter

A LOT of high school dropouts in this thread.

                Ugh.

Speed = the rate of change in position expressed as distance/time
Power = average work done, or energy transfered / time
Strength = ability of person to exert force on objects
Accuracy = degree of conformity in measure quantity to it's true value.

                Therefore speed = power.

                More speed = more power.

                Period.

In terms of BOXING Accuracy and timing beat all of the above.

So much for the scientific approach! the comebacking Foreman was slower than just about everyone he faced yet much more powerful.

My physics is a bit rusty but power does not equal speed.............or Ali and Holmes would be two of the great heavyweight punchers!

Add mass to the equation and you have.............Force ( ie of punch )= acceleration x mass. (I think this is the correct rearrangement of an old formula).

Think of mass as size and weight, add good technique, and you have power with even poxy acceleration (speed)! Hence George Foreman!!!!!

You need a quite a bit of both in the first place but brains wins every time. The greatest boxers have all been intelligent boxers.

8 times out of 10 a good boxer beats a good slugger.
