There is no way on God's green earth you have EVER boxed competitively before! How can you say Floyd's chin hasn't been tested when he's been in damn near 40 fights. That has to be the moronic statement I've heard so far. This is the same guy that destroyed Diego Corrales when both were in their prime and Diego was VERY dangerous! Almost everyone on here myself included consider Diego to have been a warrior! The fans in the UK LOVE Ricky Hatton so damn much they wrote a song about his ass and he destroyed him in his prime. Yet you call Floyd a coward? All of you so called REAL FIGHT FANS that talk trash about Floyd's heart and courage are keyboard bitches with no common sense or ability to fight . How can you say a man who fights world class fighters for a living has no heart? Not to mention fights people who would kick any of your asses with ease and yet he has no heart? The above reader stated that Floyd just dances around the ring and plays it safe???? I almost got fired for laughing so
hard at this lunacy. Have you ever been in a fight? Did you intentionally try to get hit? Ok let allow me to enlighten you. Fighters that stand there and brawl have no other choice but to that . That is because they lack the skill to do otherwise. You tell me if you had the reflexes to avoid damn near every punch a fighter throws at you , you wouldn't do that? Also, You have to remember Sugar Ray Leonard was bigger than Floyd even though they both fought at welterweight. I saw Floyd two years ago in Detroit and he's really tiny! He walks around at about 150 or 155. He could campaign at 135 with ease. So saying that Sugar Ray Leonard would've stopped Baldomir isn't really saying much since Ray was a bigger puncher anyway. Finally, Like many of the posters on here has stated. Don't worry about Floyd and what he's doing when we have a GREAT fight coming up with Cotto\Margarito. Floyd is using your emotions against you. You don't think he knows that many of the dire fight fans will boycott his fight with DLH ? He knows you will pay in droves to see Cotto kick his ass and that is what he wants. You will put even more money in his pocket that ever! He's outsmarting all of the other fighers out there and now the fight fans. Floyd loves to be the villian. He for some reason thrives on it. I'd love to see him fight Cotto. It pisses me off that he hasn't fought him yet. Not doing what I want or what any of you want does not all of sudden make him a coward. Fighting is his business just as flipping burgers, mopping floors or whatever you do for a living is your business. You calling him a coward because he won't fight who you think he should , would be the same as me going to the grocery story and calling the guy that bags my groceries a ***** because he didn't bag my groceries the way I thought he should.

well for you guy would you like to get paid $20 mil over someone you already beaten or $11 mil.

most people will choose one and dont try to be smart because it just shows how hypocrite people here are.

if people were in Floyd place they would have dont the same.

At the same time, you have to agree that "paying no attention to coloured fighters" is a very long way from saying he'd never fight a coloured man. And we don't have the context or conversation which elicited this remark.

Perhaps they were talking about who as an opponent would bring in the best "gate".
It was in 2003 I think. Boxrec has the info.

No matter what Dempsey said, either if it was "I won't fight a colored fighter" or "I'll pay no attention to colored fighters because there's not enough money in it", his actions later showed differently when he did sign to fight Wills.

De La Hoya said he wouldn't fight Vargas and Mayweather, but his actions later showed differently.

In regards to Mayweather saying he won't fight Cotto or whatever, well I'm not too worried about it until they both represent the biggest payday for each other and best option, and HBO really pushes the fight and puts up a lot of money.

Why do people speak about the past when they know little about it?

No doubt Robinson is greater than Mayweather, but claiming Robinson didn't bark about money shows a complete ignorance about him.

Robinson was notorious for fighting for every last dollar at the negotiating table. He proclaimed himself "too pretty to fight Burley", demanded $25,000 to fight Burley, and then later doubled it to $50,000.

Burley himself doesn't even blame Robinson though for not fighting him, and says he probably would've done the same if the situations were reversed.

You are so right, but then again, he is choosing money over glory and legacy. No matter what it is his choice to make not ours. Even though it is not the same, but no matter what... IMO, just like Barry Bonds, PBF will carry an "asterik" in his record.

                  1. Don't bring Sugar Ray Robinson down. I hate when people in general believe the only way they can be better is by bringing another person down. Sugar Ray is an all time great and if Floyd beats De La Hoya, Cotto, and hopefully Sugar Shane Mosley he will be they best under 147 EVER.
I don't think anyone is bringing Robinson down. Everyone seems to agree that he's the greatest ever. If not, then pretty damn close.

It's putting things into context for the ignorant posts about him such as "he never barked about how much money he'd make" or actually talking about the man he was OUTSIDE THE RING to praise him and knock Mayweather.

What's next? Someone talking about the wonderful husband Carlos Monzon was?

Riddle me this....Just as he defeated Corrales,Castillo,Hatton and De La Hoya, if he beats Cotto will the asterisk be removed? Or will you say Cotto was over rated and slow. What will it take to remove the asterisk?

I agree with you completely. Robinson is perhaps the greatest. I would like to add two things though. One. The greatest is very subjective and time based. I would argue that many of the fighters that Robinson fought would get KTFO by most of today's contenders. Robinson would probably be the only one from his era to become a champion. Todays fighters are so much faster and stronger than yesterdays. I personally believe that Hagler would've beaten Robinson. I also believe that many of the fighters (Hearns,Leonard,Duran,Barkley and Mogaobi) of Hagler's era would gave given Robinson a good fight. Two, This debate of the best ever reminds me of a barbershop discussion I once had. This old man was trying to argue with me that the Canton Bulldogs of his day would beat the Patriots ! I'll bet any of my points that all of you would agree with me! How is football so different ? We all know that today's players are faster, smarter, bigger and stronger than the players of his day. Do we not realize that boxer's have evolved too?
