theyre probebly just making a big deal out of it because they want to see that fight happen badly, and they think complaining on an internet forum about it will increase the chance the fight will get signed.
What do people get so excited over fighters "calling out" other fighters?

Because it shows that the fighter in question has the balls to fight the best. Instead of taking this route.......Why do people get so excited over fighters "calling out" other fighters?
Interviewer: Excellent performance, who do you want to fight next?
Fighter: That's not up to me, that's up to (promotion company)."
They cut out the middle man and firmly state their desired opponet.
Whether it actually goes through or not is another thing, but you can't fault the fighter for trying.Comment

You are correct. If you're a big name, everyone's gonna want to fight you for the payday and exposure. People are always yapping about how Miguel Cotto needs to "call out" Floyd Mayweather, but he's already insulted him in the press several times. It's not all that important anyway.
The negotiating table is where it matters, not your post-fight interview.
The "calling-out" in interviews is sometimes just hype for a fight that was probably gonna happen anyway.
People talking about "Hatton called out Mayweather, so the fight happened!"
Nevermind that Ray Hatton later said that they'd been in negotiations with Team Mayweather for 18 months.
Barrera is the main reason PAC is where he is today. After disposing Kevin Kelley and Pacquiao knocking Lucero to dreamland. PAC asked/demanded to his current promoter Murad Muhammad a fight with MAB. Freddie Roach disagreed thinking that pac is not ready. MAB gave Pac the chance because he thinks he can handle him. kudos to mab for that.
Guy's Like JMM (1999-2003) and Joan Guzman are being avoided because they call out fighters in the press room. a Morales fight was even offered to JMM. and Guzman never negotiated for a fight againts the likes of pac, mab and Morales. and he dares to broadcast that pac is avoiding him

That depends on the status of the fighter whether he has the options or is he begging for a fight.
Interviewer: Excellent performance, who do you want to fight next?
PAC of 2003
Barrera is 2 or 3 in the pound 4 pound list and getting a fight with him is very hard at this pointI want Paulie Ayala and Marco Antonio Barrera
PAC of 2008
Whoever bob Arum puts in front of me
well he know he has the option whether JMM, Guzman, Campbel, Diaz he only have to choose and any of them will sign the contract immediately.
If a fighter wants to step up and fight a huge name he MUST make his promoter/Manager commit on seeking for that fight. calling out on the press room is not bad but he must make sure that his managing team is working on it.Last edited by miron_lang; 06-26-2008, 11:07 PM.Comment

It doesn't really show all that. It's just an interview.Because it shows that the fighter in question has the balls to fight the best. Instead of taking this route.......

Cutting out the middle man would be promoting your own fights. Most fighters don't have the business knowledge to do that successfully.
A fighter can talk all he wants about wanting to fight someone, it's just words. It doesn't mean much if his team isn't getting down to negotiations with the other camp, or if the fighter isn't pushing his team and management to get a certain opponent.Comment

It's a big waste of a hard-on, like getting a lap-dance.
When you get excited over something as meaningless as a "call-out" in a post-fight interview, you're most likely end up with blue balls.Comment

calling out big names is common in boxing..
you have to understand that this is not some kind of league that you have the oppurtunity to face all the opponents like baseball or basketball.
calling out names is one instrument of getting the fans attentions and also the promoters. we have to understand that boxing handlers always wants the easy fights for their stable. and without calling names, they would not be forced to pit their fighter against one of the best in the division..
without name calling during the interview, lots of boxer would have the capability to retire with unblemish records, and sad to say that this sport will not be entertaining as it is today..Comment

Nowadays, cable networks do a lot of the hyping and promoting for fighters/fights. A guy doesn't have to mention a specific opponent because he'll likely be asked about it in the post-fight interview. Most likely his answer will be "I'd like to fight him" or "I'll fight who my manager says to".calling out big names is common in boxing..

If HBO/Showtime doesn't want the fight and won't put up the money for it, then all the calling out won't amount to a hill of beans.
The calling out process just helps builds some hype, but the fight has to make economic sense anyway.
Courtney Burton: I want Mayweather.
Floyd:

Ricky Hatton: You saw more action in 4 rounds tonight with me than in Floyd's whole career.
Floyd: Oh good, we have extra hype on this fight we've been negotiating for the last year and a half! Make the ****in fight happen so I can kick his ass and get another 8 figures.Comment
