Floydy the Ring #1 p4p--S'plain Please..

Here are the current ********* rankings of every division Floydy has fought in. Ring placed him in their top p4p slot after July of '05 when Taylor knocked off Hopkins. He had been #2 during Hopkins reign which didn't last long, starting from when long time Ring #1 Jones got knocked out by Tarver with the shot heard 'round the world.

    Light middle: 1. Sergei Dzindziruk
    2. Oscar De La Hoya
    3. Vernon Forrest
    4. Joachim Alcine
    5. Ricardo Mayorga
    6. Sechew Powell
    7. Verno Phillips
    8. Lukas Konecny
    9. Joel Julio
    10. Cory Spinks
    11. Travis Simms
    12. Z. Baysangurov
    13. James Kirkland
    14. Daniel Santos
    15. Sergio Martinez
    16. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

So far, so good. Floydy only one fight here, faced the #2 guy, but what a dire list. Mayorga #5? Not a comprehensive win for Floydy, but a disputed split.

    Welter: 1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    2. Miguel Cotto
    3. Shane Mosley
    4. Antonio Margarito
    5. Carlos Quintana
    6. Paul Williams
    7. Kermit Cintron
    8. Andre Berto
    9. Zab Judah
    10. Joshua Clottey
    11. Yuri Nuzhnenko
    12. Luis Collazo
    13. Shamone Alvarez
    14. Jan Zaveck
    15. Demetrius Hopkins
    16. Richard Guttierez

Floydy top dog here, but only faced one guy on the list, #9, Judah, a fight Floydy should have been DQed in when good ol' Uncle Rog jumped in the middle of a round and attacked Judah. The other top guys have been fighting each other the last few years. Floydy holds the WBC belt, and hasn't faced WBC #1, Berto, or #3, Collazo. Hmmmm, Floydy's first fight after ascension to number 1 was welter fight against Mitchell, not exactly p4p material, then Zab, and then? OK, must of been based on previous work, so let's look on,

    Junior Welt: 1. Ricky Hatton
    2. Andreas Kotelnik
    3. Ricardo Torres
    4. Paul Malignaggi
    5. Timothy Bradley
    6. Juan Urango
    7. Kendall Holt
    8. Junior Witter
    9. Herman Ngoudjo
    10. Lovemore N'dou
    11. Randall Bailey
    12. Vivian Harris
    13. Gavin Rees
    14. Souleymane M’Baye
    15. Marcos Maidana
    16. Victor Ortiz

OK, Floydy's fought the top junior welt in his last fight, but fought him at welter. Well, Floydy only in this division 3 fights, so lets look further.

    Lightweight: 1. Nate Campbell
    2. Joel Casamayor
    3. Juan Diaz
    4. Michael Katsidis
    5. David Diaz
    6. Amir Khan
    7. Joan Guzman
    8. Julio Diaz
    9. J.A. Santa Cruz
    10. Almazvek Raimkulov
    11. Jesus Chavez
    12. Prawet Singwancha
    13. Yuri Romanov
    14. Randy Suico
    15. Edner Cherry
    16. Anthony Peterson

Floydy has fought only the #11 guy, Jesus Chavez, but fought him as a superfeather, so lets look further.

    Superfeather: 1. Manny Pacquiao
    2. Juan Manuel Marquez
    3. Edwin Valero
    4. Alex Arthur
    5. Marco Antonio Barrera
    6. Jorge Barrios
    7. Humberto Soto
    8. Cassius Baloyi
    9. Yuriorkis Gamboa
    10. Urbano Antillon
    11. Kevin Mitchell
    12. Mzonke Fana
    13. Gairy St. Clair
    14. Rocky Juarez
    15. Malcolm Klassen
    16. Vitali Tajbert

Hmmm, Floydy ain't fought a single top superfeather.

So, in the 5 divisions in his career, the Ring #1 has fought 3 of the current top 79 fighters in the list. Is this possible, or ever happened before?

Just a glance at Floydy's comp for this Ring honor, Manny Pac is scheduled to challenge the #5 lightweight in a couple of months. Floydy's fight with Oscar still unsigned and may not be for a title.

Manny has fought his main ********* superfeather challenger, #2 Marquez twice now, and #5 Barrera twice also.

At feather, Manny has fought the #11 guy, Jorge Solis. No fighter beyond feather on the ********* rankings appears on Manny's record, so that's 5 fights with ********* current top fighters vs 3 for Floydy. Manny will be making his debut in a division 7 divisions above his debut weight which was just a single pound over the strawweight limit. Maybe had Manny known he was making this kind of history, he could've chewed gum and spit for a hour before the weighin and made the strawweight limit.

Some consider Joe Calzaghe in the running, though he's had only one fight above his debut weight. He's recently beat the ********* #2 lightheavy, being #1 himself, and beat the #2 supermiddle, the #9, and the #14 for 4 fights against the ********* rankings.

It seems to me that Manny fits the original definition of p4p fighter, dominating the divisions well above his debut, compared to Floydy who seems to be tiptoeing and teetering these past few years since obtaining the Ring honor.

Maybe someone can refresh me on how Floydy obtained this lofty title in the face of this substantial competition. If it's defeats by Manny, well, Joe undefeated.

What say you? Anyone work for Ring care to "chime" in?
