I think it's close, ultimately we'll know in a few years time. By then Calzaghe will have had another fight against top opposition (hopefully) and Kessler will have either achieved a lot or put in average performances against a bunch of nobodies.

If Calzaghe beats Pavlik or Dawson, and then they and Kessler dominate for the next 5 years, then I'd put Calzaghe above Tszyu. If Calzaghe has a poor performance against old Roy Jones and Kessler never achieves anything else for the rest of his career, then Tszyu has the edge.

That assumption would be incorrect. I'd have to think about it for a bit to form my opinion, but outside of the Calzaghe haters I'd imagine the bulk of the forum would vote for him as opposed to Tszyu.

The question should be, is he a top 10 in the last 30 years?

I don't know about that one...
          In a word: no

I'm trying to list some guys I know for a fact he isn't better than and I think before I type this out he's around 20 or so. These are in no particular order by the way

          1) Mayweather
          2) Roy Jones
          3) Lennox Lewis
          4) Ray Leonard
          5) Roberto Duran
          6) Marvin Hagler
          7) Tommy Hearns
          8) Larry Holmes
          9) Mike Tyson
          10) De La Hoya
          11) Trinidad
          12) Hopkins
          13) Bowe
          14) Toney
          15) Morales
          16) Barrera
          17) Pacquiao
          18) Whitaker
          19) Chavez
          20) Shane Mosley

Those guys have all had better careers with more impressive wins, a lot of them in more than one division.

He is praised now. People from all around acknowledge him as a good fighter, as he has stepped up his level of game. The point was, a few years ago he was a nobody because of his garbage as resume filled w/ bums in a weak division with 1 belt....

Nice job throwing in "white" too... I thought the argument was Americans only rooted for black fighters? Which one is it?
He was a nobody to american fight fans. Its typical american arrogance. You're actually even showing it in this post. Every fighter has bums on his ledger, even american fighters, unless of course you're saying that american fighters are taking on world class opposition out the gate. americans think everyone needs to fight people here to prove their worth, but what makes fighting american bums more impressive than bums from other countries?

You lost me with your last statement. White or Black, still american.

It's hardly as if Zsolt Erdei is well-regarded in the UK. We don't go out of our way to watch him fight because, whether he is a good fighter or not, if a European guy stays on home soil defending a WBO belt against average fighters then there's not all that much for us to get excited about. If he won a few big fights I'm sure we'd have more of an interest, just like the Americans and Calzaghe.

Want to know where all the posts praising Joe Calzaghe pre-Lacy were on this forum by its contingent of Euros?

They didn't exist. Want to know why? Because, even though they acknowledged Calzaghe, as some did on this forum, he was **** because of his complete lack of fights. Your ignorance is astounding. The fans didn't exist. Pull your head out of your ass.

Until he beat Lacy he wasn't talked about by Americans or Brits. It's just the facts. His resume was complete and utter ****. He was the bastard step-child nobody talked about because there was nothing worth talking about.

The most important point I've seen on here in a while. Everybody rags on me for picking Lacy to beat Calzaghe, but who the **** was Calzaghe? Nobody knew. No one backed him. No one thought he was elite. He was no different as bad as it sounds than Sven Ottke or Zolt Erdei. Just another undefeated fighter with no big wins and no accomplishments who was going to hide in his country until he was old and it didn't matter whether he won or lost. He had zero fans on here, zero people claiming he was elite. Nobody gave a flying **** about Joe Calzaghe until he looked good against Lacy.
