If Floyd had already fought Cotto and a few of the other welters the sport would have more credibility, just like that, I agree. The hardcore fans would certainly be happier and I think that perhaps that casual fans might have a better appreciation not only of who was the best, but also why. They would have seen Mayweather beat his division and understand boxing better.

Mayweather understands perfectly though that boxing is about the perceptions of the occassional PPV buying casual fan, many of whom may not know the difference between prime Oscar and the Oscar of 2008. They just remember that was the last PPV they bought and that Oscar is 'great'. It is exploiting this perception that enables Mayweather not only to get away with his exhibition fights, but justify them too, at least in his own mind.

Thats called business and its not Floyd's fought the casual fan cant interpret between both stages of Oscar, besides Floyd isnt the first to do this blame the promoters. Floyd was calling out Oscar when Floyd was at 130 so dont say Floyd was exploiting Oscar's name, if anything its Oscar who was exploiting Floyd's name, the same thing Shane tried to do. Yea Floyd called him out at 130 also but now that Floyd is the man Shane wants a payday, see how that works?
