but that was the heavyweight championship super fight, between 2 names that were suppoused to have gotten into the ring with each other 6 years back. and i thought it lived up to the hype, mike was looking for one punch but i thought it was a good pace for heavyweights

but then again, i love the heavyweight division more than any other division. NOT RIGHT NOW, but overall i rank that division the highest. watching big guys in action is something.
All I wrote were The Ring's FOTYs from 1990-1999.

1996 alone had Barrera-McKinney and Gatti-Rodriguez, which both were better than Holyfield vs. Tyson. I think all the things that you factor into FOTY status should factor into Event of the Year, but shouldn't really determine FOTY.

After all, if prestige were involved in FOTY, Pavlik-Taylor I would have gotten the nod over Vazquez-Marquez II, which would have been a travesty IMO.

Well... I think I would have less trouble with Quiroga-Afinowoshe or Chavez-Taylor than I would Benn-McClellan. Afinowoshe and Taylor could have led normal lives after their fights... that was it for Gerald.

good point D, but also aside from prestige we have to factor in the remebrance and significance of the event. barrera-mckinney and gatti-rodriguez may have indeed been better, but majority of fans would remember tyson-holyfield 1 as having a bigger impact overall. not to say that those other fights are forgotten, they not and they are legendary in their own right, but i could tell you that most people would remember that the first tyson holyfield fight was a stand out among others

it's the same thing with tyson-douglas fight and taylor chavez1 which both were in 1990. this douglas fight might not have been mike's best performance, or better in comparisson to the taylor fight, but i could bet my money that people would go with the tyson fight after all. and you know what? they'll be right about it. it was an unintentional historic classic.

but then again it has to do a lot with taste

Holyfield vs Tyson was a FOTY because of the upset and because it was the biggest boxing event of the 90's, Its a sad sight looking at that list of heavyweights when you go back to the pre 90's the American heavyweight scene always had plenty of strength and depth what happened, you can spin it and say the eastern euro heavyweights are dominating and making them look bad but its obvious to anyone with boxing knowledge the lack of skill and conditioning with American heavyweights, it would also seem that there are less active American heavyweights.

Why is tye fields not on that list?

he is the only heavyweight from america that is worth mentioning he is a beast!

after reading that list I remembered why the heavyweight division is only a shadow of it's former self.

I was about to ask the same question. Where the **** is The Great Tye Fields in the list? I'm sure Tye Fields can KTFO all those bums in the list. What a list of tomato cans.

You're a complete joke, man. The thought of anyone showing pride in this Eastern European dominated devision thats only comparable to the heavy weight devision of the early 80's minus Holmes, is absolutely hilarious.
