you know these things are based on marketability and demographics right? Most likely they don't think that that show would appear to HBO's typical fight audience because it would be mostly subtitled. That's got to be part of it.

I'm not debating if that's right or wrong. And yes I know there have been countdowns for previous non-English speaking fighters all the time. But you have to factor in that this could be a huge part of HBO executives thought process.
It cant be the language barrier.

      They had Marquez/Pacquiao, Marquez/Barrera, Morales/Pacquiao III, Barrera/Pac III...

      Floyd Sr. and Uncle Rog...

For HBO it's one of two things or both:

            A) It's not worth it's weight in production costs.

            B) It could hurt interest more than help it.

That's also possibly. Sounds like a business decision to me.

Also you have to factor in the two bland, bland personalities involved.

                a) agree. As much as it sucks I am betting HBO is doing their own cost cutting within their network and shows likes this they probably see as adding little value to their network or to the bottom line of the sales especially for the investment in doing a countdown show.

                b) I don't know there are some very interesting stories from Tony's side of things in terms of the family tragedies he has had to endure and him starting from nothing. Cotto can be a dry interview but his story is still intriguing in not only trying to be that star the Puerto Rican fans can adore but trying to be a crossover hit as well.

I would love to have seen one but not surprised in the least

It would of been nice to hear his side of the story, and facts about his upbringing and life. That sucks
