GOMEZ PALACIO, Mexico -- Mexico's Cristian Mijares outpointed Venezuela's Alexander Munoz in a split decision Saturday night to add the WBA super flyweight title to his WBC crown.
Mijares (35-3-2) received winning scores of 115-111 and 115-112 from two judges, while Munoz (32-3-0) had a 115-113 edge on the other judge's card.
"I do not have word to describe how I feel. It was a great fight. He was a worthy opponent, but we have the title and I'm very proud," Mijares said. "He made me work strong. He had me a couple of times, but I settled down to get the job done."
