honestly, in terms of skill and everything, he probebly should be in the top 5. but p4p lists have always really just been 50% a popularity contest, and its more so than ever nowadays because of the internet and everything.

seriously, maybe its just me, but when I see Mijares fight it looks like he has much more skill than guys like Pavlik or Hatton...even more skill than someone like Hopkins.

but little guys are always a little underrated. cant really blame anyone though...the weight classes get really confusing to me after featherweight. there seems like theres just such little weight between the fighters at that point, they should just melt some of those weight classes together.

but really p4p lists are kind of just popularity contests for boxing enthusiasts. when did Vasquez and Marquez get on the p4p list? when they fought each other and got FOTY type fights. dont get wrong they deserve to be on there, theyre both incredibly skilled...but they still had the same level of skill before they fought each other, so in theory they should have already been that high up. but again, p4p lists are partially popularity contests nowadays.

marquez was ranked already #7 or so before beating vazquez .....vazquez is the one who has benefited from the popularity of tehir fights....

marquez is getting screwed on the payment as well....

He's at about #11-12 p4p now. Another big win, and he clearly belongs in the top ten.
That's impressive. I think hes top 10 p4p but if he beats montiel and isn't in the top ten that's insulting and a crime.

I had him top ten before Munoz and will move him up in the next quarter. This is a potentially GREAT fighter at his peak right now. Screw the 'lifetime achivement' standard some apply; if everyone was the same size, how many guys beat him right now? How many hit him?

Mayweather was top 6-10 in most lists after beating Hernandez and Manfredy in 1998; this run is at least that impressive.

I wouldn't have a problem with Mijares being in the top ten. He's pretty damn slick and a win over Montiel I feel would definitely put him into the top ten. It's just that I think these lower division don't get that much press and it hurts the fighters sometimes when it come to these rankings.

That's the fault of press; not the fighters though it should be noted that Mijares got decent ink this week on this site and ESPN.

The reason for that is Mijares has only appeared on US television on PPV's. One impressive win on Showtime or HBO would do a lot to enhance his profile.

Agree entirely and I think that will be handled in due course before the year is out.

He could easily be in the top 10, i do not really move around my top 10 to much though and people really need to lose to drop down for me, except in some certain cases.
I see you argument though because he is easily one of the best pure boxers around, with weight being equal it is hard to see him beat.
