It wasn't a pretty or convincing victory, but Calzaghe won by three points in my eyes. He was the aggressor, he landed more punches and he had Hopkins hurt when he faked that lowblow. I'm positive Hopkins was suffering when he took his opportunity to get a breather. Firstly, there is no way the lowblow hurt him. Secondly, I don't believe he could act that well. The only conclusion I can reach is that he was hurt and decided to exploit the situation.

The funny thing is, I think Calzaghe would have looked much better if Hopkins had tried being aggressive.

Threads about this fight need to end soon.

Hopkins was exhausted not hurt. The low blow faking was a clear sign of fatigue. Look how strong he finishes the round after the rest from the first feign. His whole style that night put him right back where he started with Taylor I. Everything he's doing outside of punching is about conserving energy in the process.

      @rusticraver

Ridiculous. You're still not accounting for Hopkins' defensive aptitude. He had to rely on fundamentals as he got older, it doesn't mean they weren't present when he was younger. You stick the Hopkins that was in there with Wright that boxed all 12 rounds and had Wink gassed in this April fight and it isn't even a discussion with Joe coming out with the decision.

I had it 114-113 for Hopkins, either way, he is clearly a better fighter than calzaghe without question and calzaghe's skill level was highly exposed, he couldnt hit hopkins, couldnt hurt hopkins and got knocked down in the 1st round, his only answer to hopkins outboxing him was to simply throw desperate slaps which did not land.

At the end of the day, Hopkins left the ring the same way he went in, no way did calzaghe land anywhere near 200 punches on him, more like 4 punches.

Hopkins gained a huge amount of respect amougst proper boxing fans that night, he took calzaghe to school and yet another dodgy decision went against him.

It was a very easy fight and always would have been.

Some people can't handle their little stereotypes being shattered.

I had Hopkins 114-113...Hopkins made Joe look like a prospect.....Hopkins was 7 years shy of fifty...what th uck does beating a 43 year old Hopkins mean??...****.

And now Calzaghe wants a 40 year old Roy....ugh.

Yeah Hopkins was an OLD MAN and was SHOT. That's why he was coming off two wins including his BEST WIN over Antonio Tarver.

If people don't want to hear this sort of thing from Calzaghe fans like myself then they ought to 1) recognise Calzaghe for the fighter he is and 2) admit that he beat Hopkins.

                Simple.
Calzaghe did'nt deserve to win the fight anymore than Hopkins did, u like to agree with me when i mention the fact that Hopkins did'nt deserve to win the fight based on the fact he tried to steal it but u dont seem to respond when in the past ive have said neither did Joe deserve to win either because he did not land anything

u should listen to what Lederman says at the begining of the HBO broadcasts judges will score on clean punching ,effective aggresiveness ,ring generalship ,Joe Calzaghe was a about as effective as the aggressor as Ricky Hatton was against Mayeather

his own father thought he was losing the fight ,Duke McKenzie ,Mike Tyson thought he lost the fight & Duke is Calzaghe nuthugger

no way Calzaghe deserved to win that fight ,Hopkins did'nt either but he only did'nt deserve to win because he tried to steal it ,but he was far more effective as the ring general than Calzaghe was the aggressor

He(Joe Calzaghe) got Knocked Down in the first round, he got his nose cut, and he was staggered in the later rounds. He never returned the favor of damage as Hopkins was not bruised or hurt after the fight except for maybe the low blow. Joe Calzaghe got his ass kicked. He showed americans that he's a ****ing slapper really, I like HAtton more. Anyway he got a gift decision because Hopkins made that ****** ass racist comment. ****ing idiot. But thats just the cold reality. He should fight Roy Jones next.

Not really coming off of it, the Tarver win was two years before the Calzaghe fight. I thought he already looked past it in the Winky Wright fight to be honest...

It's the same with people saying that the Calzaghe back in the late 1990's/early 2000's was the best Calzaghe there ever was because he had power although that Calzaghe only fought average opposition and Chris Eubank.

The Hopkins who fought average opposition and Trinidad was the best Hopkins there ever was because he still had the stamina, the workrate and the willingness to fight and prove everybody wrong because his boxing skills were not recognized by the public.

Prime for prime it would've been a hell of a fight IMO, not the joke we saw a month ago.
