He won over Quartey when Ike was undefeated. Won his grudge match against a 'roided Vargas with a TKO. Defeated various good fighters like Paez, Molina, Hernandez (whose only other loss came against PBF), Leija, González, Camacho, Carr, Rivera. Defeated "El Gran Campeón Mexicano" Julio César Chávez twice, albeit past his prime.

Among his losses, only once has he being KOed, by a much bigger, stronger opponent, in HOF Bernard Hopkins. Only once has he lost by an unanimous decision, against HOF Shane Mosley.

The other 3 losses in his career are disputed by some, and none of them were unanimous. He lost by SD against Floyd Mayweather, and DLH fought way past his prime. He also lost a SD against Shane Mosley.

In perhaps the most important fight in his career, he lost a very disputed split decision against HOF Felix Trinidad, in a fight some consider a boxing clinic by DLH, and others a shameful, fearful marathon race by, as they say, "Chicken De la Hoya".

DLH does have a disputed win on his resume, and that was against Felix Sturm. Had DLH been a wiser man, he would have acknowledged the gift the judges gave him, and would have avoided his loss against Hopkins.

So, because he beat numerous very good fighters, was a KO artist, has only been KOed once (and by a bigger man), and most of his losses were not UD or KOs -and all of them against HOFers-, I think De la Hoya is an all time great.

If you know of anyone that does shirts, let me know. I'd wear them all the time, I would never wash it , it would stink from sweat and have stains on it, it would be the perfect shirt to go to the store with and buy pork rinds with my food stamps.

I feel that Oscar de la Hoya's in-ring accomplishments are vastly overshadowed by his celebrity. He has always been more of a star than a prizefighter. He has had a very good, well-marketed career that has made him an icon. His iconic status is preserved by him being competitive in fights in which he is clearly bested by much lesser known fighters.

If you juxtapose de la Hoya with Robinson, Leonard, Duran, there is no comparison. Those guys showed up to fight in their biggest fights.

After the Trinidad fight, everything with de la Hoya was opened up to scrutiny and a lot of what was found has hurt his image with boxing media. Note that I said boxing media, not tabloid media.

You could also say that the Whitaker fight was disputable. The problem is that when he wins important fights, he doesn't know how to slam dunk to make a statement. He doesn't separate himself from his opponents often enough.

Ras, if DLH was "way past his prime" in the mayweather fight, then wasn't pernell "way past" and chavez, too?

And Oscar was bigger than those guys. In fact, Oscar has almost always had a size advantage in his fights. He is 0-2 at middleweight. No shame in that, because that is beyond where his body and skills can take him.

I can see that you rate Oscar highly, and I won't belittle your opinions. But you are not applying your criteria fairly.

Oscar is a guy with skills and an excellent chin. He will not be dominated in his losses. He is almost like a BETTER Glen Johnson in that respect.

If you forgive Oscar for being KO'd by Hopkins, then shouldn't you penalize him for not KO'ing the much smaller Mayweather? Or Pernell?

I will have to look at that fight again. Honestly, right now, I don't remember it well.

Glad to see an Aaron Pryor sig! Good Karma going your way.
