  • How about a one round deduction for booing national anthems?

I am ashamed of the behaviour of some English fans (I'm English and I have to hold my hand up and say that we are worse than the Celts at this sort of thing) booing the US National anthem; the booing was absent in the Calzaghe fight, but back here in the UK the Witter fight showed us up. As English, we are used to trading chants over the terraces, but the US anthem is generally held with more affection by its people than God Save the Queen is by the Brits, especially the celts, who have their own (much better imo) anthems; we should respect that.

So my plan...If you are the away fighter and your anthem gets booed, not just an odd cat call, but properly booed, the referee should be given the discretion to deduct a point.

Yes I know there are flaws in this, like what level of booing is needed, but maybe just the threat of sanctions may be enough??

      Better Idea:

Remove National Anthems from almost all sporting events. It loses its meaning and power by being overplayed so often. It should be reserved for the Olympics and things that actually deal w/ nations; not a sporting event.

What about abolishing these goddamn boring anthems?
Your suggestion ist just bull****, all fans would start their own anthems to get a point deduction for the other fighter, great plan.

i think the that the hatton fans booing the anthem pissed cortez off and fired mayweather up even more. So really it had a positive effect if you think about it.

agee with a couple of posts above that we should just get rid of them, save them for the olympics - when two teams line up in a club football match they dont play the national anthem.

they're way overrated anyway and to be honest at that stage when both fighters are in the ring you just want to see them get it on.

The last two peole's anthems who got booed went on to win.

                    Booing has an encouraging effect.

Secondly how would you identify who booed who? What happens if English Boo their own?

See it's totally flawed. **** idea I'm afraid.
