Vitali Klitschko-Sam Peter: Duva, K2 Reach Agreement
New York, May 9—Dino Duva, president of Duva Boxing and promoter of World Boxing Council Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter, announced today that an agreement has been reached with K2 Promotions for the “Nigerian Nightmare’ to defend his title against former champion Vitali Klitschko, thus avoiding a purse bid.
The two sides reached accord at meetings in Mexico City yesterday, and the WBC world title clash will take place sometime this fall, with date, site and television to be deterimined in the near future.
“The deal was made at the 11th hour, and we are delighted,” said Duva. “Instead of going to the WBC offices for a purse bid and uncertain future, we instead were able to reach the agreement and announce it in front of the wonderful Mexican media and fans.
“We’re ecstatic,” added Duva. “It’s the best possible deal for all concerned – the fighters, promoters, and most importantly the fans.”
The WBC Heavyweight title tilt will be a co-promotion between Duva Boxing and K2 Promotions, with Duva serving as lead promoter.
“It was a long and complicated negotiation,” said Duva. “I want to sincerely thank all of the key parties – my partner Don King, Sam’s manager Ivaylo Gotzev, Vitali Klitschko, his advisor Shelly Finkel and promoter Tom Loeffler
"Last but not least, I must thank WBC President Jose Sulaiman, who, along with his son Mauricio, was determined to get all parties to the table and make a deal for this great fight,” wrapped up Duva. “Without their support and understanding, this never would have happened.
As part of the agreement, Peter is free to fight in an interim bout by July, which is being worked on feverishly, according to DuvaComment

yeah im kinda bothered by the whole vitali beating sam's ass preception. i mean the guy hasnt fought since 2004 for ****s sake. technically and phsically he's a more superior fighter than peter, but that inactivity is not gonna do him any good.
and i dont give a **** about his intrem status, he hasnt done anything to deserve a title shot in his first comeback. if he retired on injury that's his own problem.
i still wanna see this fight but it pisses me off how vitali is able to come and go as he pleases.Comment

What is that your way of dealing with the fact that Vitali was beating Lewis's ass with a badly cut eye and only with half of his vision. It wasn't like any of Lewis's punches were hurting him. Lewis was the luckiest man on the planet that night.Comment

This is an excellent appraisal.Wlad is actually the heavier puncher. His right hand is like a freight train, and is quite comparable to a right hand from George Foreman or Earnie Shavers. Also, pay no attention to Ring Magazine's "Heaviest Punchers" list. Joe Louis, while a great puncher, with beautiful handspeed and superb instincts, just didn't compare with Foreman, Shavers or Wlad Klitchko. Those three (in that order, in my opinion) are probably the heaviest punchers of all time.
Vitali's keys to success are, as you stated, his granite chin, but the biggest reason he's so tough is simply his iron will. Those, coupled with his predatory instincts makes him scary as hell inside the ring. I can't remember another heavyweight as aggressives as Vitali. Even Tyson, who was great at getting inside and unloading combinations lightning quick, didn't continually stalk his prey around the ring like Vitali Klitchko. His quick disassembly of Kirk Johnson was a great example of this. His predatory nature is extremely evident when you watch him looking for a hole to counter every time his opponent (more accurately, "prey") throws a punch.
You're also right about his "talent". He appears clumsy and, as some have said, robotic. His brother is, by FAR, the better "boxer", he's just not as aggressive, and doesn't have the heart and willpower his brother does. If he did, he could've most likely gone down in history as one of the top 5 greatest heavyweights of all time. He has the size, power, ability, speed and skill. He's just lacking the iron will of those past champions which, in my opinion, is about 75% of the game.Comment

Duva sounds exactly as if he's just received an Academy Award. I think he thanked everyone except the people who make the boxing equipment.Vitali Klitschko-Sam Peter: Duva, K2 Reach Agreement
