Damage, it'll ruin Cotto, unless he picks himself up after that fight and gives a good performance.Comment

From a historical point of view Not really...
Cotto is still building his legecy....
Because if you take a real look at Cotto's Career
He never fought a young, prime, active, p4p fighter before.
is a credible argument to downplay the Historical significances a win over cotto is..
He only won his titles by fighting in Vacant matches is a credible argument to downplay the Historical significance a win over cotto is..
And Cotto was never highly ranked in the P4P list anyways So a win over Cotto is not as impressive as it could be if Cotto fought better Competition .....is a credible argument to downplay the Historical significance a win over cotto is..
Cotto is still a good fighter on the cusp of greatness....
but right now he isnt a great fighter yet...Comment

This was my question. I say you can't damage what you don't have.
This comment isn't in defense of any specific fighter. People place to much value on a p4p ranked fighter facing another p4p ranked fighter. In some cases said p4p ranked fighter might not have a person in a division below or a division above them so you can't fault said for not fighting a p4p ranked fighter. All that fighter can do is beat the best people put in the ring with them. Too many fighters get blamed for the era they are born in.Comment
Floyd is ducking Cotto and no it wont hurt his legacy
