De La Hoya: Sharp Or Shot?

i thought he looked like he could beat on 99% of fighters at 147 if he could actually get down to it.

i thought Stevie was just outgunned and no shame in that.

ill be a fan of both fighters from now on.

He looked good he went the distance, and it shows hes ready to go 12 rounds with Mayweather if it goes the distance good tune up of course i think de la hoya is alil bit older but hes still got it.

One group of people think De La Hoya looked old, tired, and shot. The other group believes he looked sharp, fluid, and impressive.

Somewhere in between. Clearly he ain't at his best, nor is he shot. I think it's safe to suggest his best days are behind him but he still has something left in the tank. I don't think he has enough to beat Mayweather. That's the important question.

I think he looked pretty good. He seemed uncomfortable at times though. His defense on the inside is lacking when he goes to the shoulder roll.

Am I the only one who would like to see De La Hoya/Margarito? After the Cotto/Marg, Oscar/Floyd matches obviously...

I think Margarito would make things real ugly for Oscar in there.

steve forbes isnt really the kind of fighter that can help you determine this. the only thing quick about forbes are his hands. everything else is average.

He looked good for a fighter past his prime.. But evidently his performance was not in the Mayweaher or Cotto level.. A fight with P4P is meaning less we already know was is going to be the outcome!!

I was at the Home Depot Center. I was expecting to see threads praising the courage of Steve Forbes when I got back to Boxingscene, but instead what I found was a great deal of criticism aimed at Oscar De La Hoya and his performance. That's mostly what it seemed like I saw when I logged on.

The Boxing media seems impressed with Oscar's show.. How do you see it?

Odd as it seems there appears to be two versions of the story here. Polar opposite. One group of people think De La Hoya looked old, tired, and shot. The other group believes he looked sharp, fluid, and impressive.

Considering what oscar has looked like in recent years (and especially compared to the way he looked last may) i'd say he's sharp.

Up until the forbes fight i thought oscar had gone far past his prime but his stamina and his ability to stay on his toes for nearly all 12 rounds showed he still has a lot left.

looking at the mayweather fight he looked shot...he was short on stamina (after about the 7th or 8th round); flat footed a lot of the fight; and looked like a mere memory of his former self.

Looking at THIS fight against forbes he was definately sharp...he looks a lot younger than he has in recent years...his stamina is back; his counterpunching has improved and he did what he was supposed to do; outclass and definatively defeat forbes.

the scorecards read: 11 to 1, 11 to 1, and 12 to none...

thats roughly what i expected from him.

i just didnt expect him to look so sharp doing it.

so i think considering his age; he's as sharp and ready as he can be to fight floyd in september.

age is the only major factor against him...

i didnt like the shoulder roll (as other posters have said) and i think his new technique could use a little fine tuning before the september floyd rematch...but all in all he gets a 9/10 for me on his performance.

so i say floyd v. oscar in september is the way to go right now.

I agree on the defense and the Margarito thing. We might get that matchup.
