  • De La Hoya: Sharp Or Shot?

I was at the Home Depot Center. I was expecting to see threads praising the courage of Steve Forbes when I got back to Boxingscene, but instead what I found was a great deal of criticism aimed at Oscar De La Hoya and his performance. That's mostly what it seemed like I saw when I logged on.

The Boxing media seems impressed with Oscar's show.. How do you see it?

Odd as it seems there appears to be two versions of the story here. Polar opposite. One group of people think De La Hoya looked old, tired, and shot. The other group believes he looked sharp, fluid, and impressive.

I think he looked good, Forbes was fighting out of his skin and Oscar still made it look easy.

You wont see a more determined fighter than Forbes in that fight, it was his big shot and he trained his bollocks off for it.

IMO he looked sharp, everyone is just hating i mean he won a UD,
floyd has won a UD not looking sharp at all, like vs judah....
oscar did a great job......if you ask me, pbf should of blowned oscar the first time around and he wasn't able to, nobody says anything about floyd not being able to get rid of oscar or blow an easy UD like he does

All I'm going to say is that DLH is lucky that he was going up against Forbes that night and not someone like Charlie Zelenoff.

I thought he looked fine. Not hugely impressive, but certainly not shot. He's just a bit older and it does show.

I was pretty impressed with Forbes though, he did better than I thought. He landed some big shots early on. If he had a little bit more power the fight would have been much closer.

I think a lot of the ODH Fans are were happy to see him throw the jab consistently and effectively. But it's Steve Forbes, who basically just stands there in front of you. Not an elusive defensive guru like Mayweather. I think there was a reason why the jab didn't work when they fought and I don't think it will be any different part II.

De La Hoya looked sharp, but I don't think that translate into having a live shot at Mayweather or Cotto. He basically beat a handpicked opponent like he was supposed to.

Forbes looked like porky pig and Oscar was a monster , the size difference was huge , Forbes was determined to not get stopped not to win and the size and the fact Forbes has no power was more to do with Oscar looking good than he really was , matchmakers and managers do this size **** all the time and people dont give it the influence on a fight that it warrants .

I agree. Past his prime, sure. Shot? Not at all.

He kept his distance, threw the jab, & seemed to have better conditioning from the previous fights...Considering the opponent, that's not saying too much, but I say Oscar looked aiight for a 35yr old!
