Does Floyd Deserve To Be Called Greater Than Sugar Ray?

It's arguable that Floyd is the best right now. He could never compare to SRR or SRL these were guys that left everything they had on the ring. They beat everyone and left no doubt that they were the very best fighters of their era.

Anyone that even thinks of this is either Ellerbe, Floyd or just a dumb *****. Mayweather is nothing but a talented clown who only fights for money and if he should continue on the path his on, will be remembered as P4P the most talented heartless clown in boxing history.

From the griany vids I seen of Ray Robinson and from what I know about Maywetaher..Floyd would adjust and find a way to beat him.

Seeing as there's been some discussion about this recently, I'd be interested to know how many of you think Floyd Mayweather Jr deserves to be called greater than Sugar Ray Robinson. Certain posters here claim Floyd is a better fighter. Floyd himself claimed he is better, I believe.

Anyone who knows a little about boxing history will probably know already that Ray is considered the greatest of all time. His achievements include over 200 pro fights from lightweight to light heavyweight over a span of 26 years. 175 wins (108 by KO), 19 losses, 6 draws. As an amateur, he had 85 fights (69 KO's), and 40 first round KO's.

The pound for pound rankings were created because of Sugar Ray. Muhammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Louis, and The Ring magazine ranked Robinson as the greatest P4P fighter of all time.

Robinson died in poverty in 1989.


I shouldn't need to break down Mayweather's record. If you are of the opinion that Floyd is better than Sugar Ray, you'll already know why you rank him higher. Floyd's record is 39-0, which you know already.

Mayweather Jr recently earned 20 million dollars for a wrestling match and continues to live in luxury.


This thread/poll is not made in disrespect of Floyd or any of his fans. I respect all reasonable opinions, so let's keep it clean. I have a genuine interest to know how many would rate Mayweather higher than Robinson.

Not robbinson, and i'm a so called fan boy, Leonard, yes, i think Floyd is greater than Leonard. The thing is boxing has changed and we need to adapt. In the old days fighters had more opportunities to be great, they would still get great fights if they weren't undefeated. Not today, look what happened to Citron, he has lost twice, to the same guy and gets dropped! Of course Robbinson would have make it in todays boxing anyways i think, but he would have alot more hate around him, like Mayweather has now.

half of those 100+ fights Robinson fought were bums, just because he had tons of fights doesn't mean he's the best ever. Quantity over quality shouldn't exsist in boxing.

Robinson lost quite a few brawls, Mayweather has lost non. Although I would like to see him KO de la hoya and beat cotto, that would seal the deal.

Fighters now-a-days can't fight 3 times per month due to health standards and other things..

EDIT: it pisses me off how Mayweather chickens out of tough fights though, You can bet Robinson was sheltered from other black fighters by the mafia or something. So I guess its fair.
