If Hatton stands even the slimmest chance he has to have more than one gameplan on the night. He can't just rely on the ref to turn it into a hugfest like Cortez did with Hopkins/Calzaghe

he never beats floyd, hatton trades on a combination of strength and quick (and fairly accurate) hands. he simply doesn't have this combination against floyd.

The trouble with that fight was that Floyd was allowed to maul and fight but the moment Hatton started throwing punches Cortez was separating them and warning Ricky. People are saying that Floyd beat Ricky at his own game, but that's not true. Ricky wanted a rough fight but any time he started roughing of his own he was stopped, warned and ultimately penalized. Floyd was elbowing, holding, using his head, hitting behind the head, ducking below the waist, stepping on toes and using elbows without so much as a stern glance from Cortez.

Hatton wins a dirty fouling match if both guys are allowed to foul, which is why Floyd would be more likely to keep it at distance.

I think Hatton would have won if the fight was at 140 and in Britain, with a fair referee.

But I'm not so sure if Hatton has recovered from what happened. Is he the same fighter as before? Besides he's once again gained a lot of excess weight, and repeated crash-dieting will eventually weaken him. he should stay in shape between fights.

He didn't gain much after the Mayweather fight.

It's not going to keep him from getting tagged with counters on the way in. Something Floyd should have done a lot more.
