No it hasn't. Malignaggi may not have the kind of power that people like to see but he does fight in a spectator-friendly manner. he gets hit, he throws punches, and he doesn't do all the standing around that Witter has been known to do.

Why isn't Witter saying "**** you guys. I have the WBC belt and I'm gonna unify!"? He's not interested in fighting Malignaggi, Torres or a Kotelnik rematch to unify. Surely he could get Kotelnik!

I'd like to see a matchup of Hatton and Witter but Witter really hasn't done much to demand the fight. If he tried to set himself up as a serious rival to Hatton rather than just posing in a green belt then the fight would have to be made.

So far the only people calling for a witter fight are Junior Witter, some of his family and anyone with an axe to grind against Hatton.

agreed, malignaggi got real respect in the boxing community for the way he stood up to cotto and took a beating, not getting stopped, rather than prancing round a ring all night out of range.

witter has no more right to a hatton fight than paulie, or torres who also only has one loss to cotto, or even kotelnik who has simply been robbed of decisions in his life but is just as much a threat as witter to hatton. so if there is no clear challenger, which there is not, as witter has been around longer but got no further, then why shouldnt hatton fight the most lucrative fights, which in the usa, where 90 per cent of the money comes from, is malignaggi at the garden, or even torres as a big puncher.

this is all not to mention the fact that hatton has no obligation to fight any of them, he has won the linear title, defended it against quality opposition and now is looking elsewhere for the big fights. the only reason people complain about ducking with this fight is because witter and hatton have a personal dislike stemming from witter's jealousy when they were promoted by warren. in terms of boxing quality its no different than calzaghe erdei, just erdei isnt looking for the fight, and there is no animosity to keep the story going, but erdei has been around as long as witter with as good opposition.

Yeah, that must be why Gavin Rees couldn't sell out a venue for his WBA defence, but Naz was on PPV on both sides of the Atlantic.

Hatton is popular because he worked very hard at building up a following and had an exciting style while doing so.

can the black panthers please wake up and realise beating an unknown prospect on the UNDERCARD of a commonwealth champion's card will not force hatton to fight him. he has said he has maybe 5 fights, 4 of them are already set, lazcano, malignaggi, mayweather, pac man, then either diaz, torres, or anyone else who comes and proves themselves, which is something witter has not done regardless of what you muppets want to think

I love how Hatton has 4 fights already set up and ready to go and hasn't even beat Lazcano yet.

Most people identify with Hatton because he's a glorified chav alcholic - like most of his fans, they don't like Witter mainly because he's not white and isn't from the council estate.

You don't want to hear it, but thats the deal.

Rees is white and he looks like he comes from a council estate, therefore I do not consider the comment to be accurate.
