Terrible, it is not 'unfair' we can compare any boxer to any other. I agree there are differences in their resumes and that Haye has time on his side to do more, and I can see why that gives Haye a bit more leeway when judging his resume. It is completely fine for the guy to like whoever he likes, but to me, if not you, some of his reasoning seems a little strange. Its up to him at the end of the day.
US Boxing Bias - Worst In The World?

I think he believes that in the sport, America is the ultimate proving hub. It sort of was for a long time. The tide is shifting to a more global thing now. It has begun balancing out.
I like fighters for what they bring to the table. If they are willing to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere, then that means they have a true fighting spirit.
Don't let boxing politics or promoters get in the way. If the fighter really wants to prove himself, he can make it happen.
Joe with his willingness to fight Jones to me is a huge risk and deserves praise. Many will try to write Jones off now, but he is a very risky opponent and on a given night, still show flashes of his brilliance. Jones is far more riskier than Hopkins as he has shown the ability to reinvent himself to me, has more left in the tank.Last edited by deanrw; 05-02-2008, 10:57 AM.Comment

never called him a lagend you must be reading the wrong post. Yea and i admitted his record is pretty damn soft but ive seen worse and i wouldn't call them sompetitiors if they're already champions. And how did he become champ in the first place? not by beating and hand-me-down fighter but by fighting and beating eubank...but i have admitted from then on he hasn't fought anyone extraordinary but i still would say, lacy, bika, kessler, eubank and hopkins "competitiors". I have seen it from your point of view mate and aknowledge it...but think its pretty much wrong IMOComment

he has not really beaten anybody he has dethrowned 2 World Champions & had already fought a former World Champion in Carl Thopmson by his 22nd fight
he has'nt fought anybody 22 fights undisputed Champ ,it becuse of fans like u Ricky ,Tunney that Joe gets disrespected
Because we think Joe is better than Haye? That's ridiculous. Haye has done well at cruiser, but his competition was not that stiff, so I'm waiting to see what he does in future. At Cruiser he is the best in the world, and well done to him. I wish him the best of luck at heavy, he just isn't my favourite boxer.
I fail to see how believing Calzaghe is better than Haye makes other fans dislike Calzaghe more. I think you are going overboard in your comments.Comment

yeah we can do it but its what we sound like making crazy comparsions like that ,u must be blind or a hater to think Haye has 'nt fought anybody not to mention the fact u should not be comaring him after 22 fightsTerrible, it is not 'unfair' we can compare any boxer to any other. if u dont likeh im fair enough but dont let your dislike for him cloud your judgement i guess we should start comapring Khans oponents to Campbell ,Katsidis ,etc

My point is Joe is just a boxer,an ordinary boxer nothing more.never called him a lagend you must be reading the wrong post. The way his fans want to elevate him to legendary status is what I disagree with.It seems to me like some British guys are so short of success that they will try to amplify mediocrity to superstardom.
Yes I agree with what you are saying about Calzaghe beating Champions but still his record is misleading,it should read 3-0 and not 45-0
Anywhere the thread starter had implied that the Americans are worse,he needs to examine the Brits closelyComment

ahh but you see im not elevating him to legendary status though im sure in years to come that's what he'll get im saying he has fought good/decent boxers and some great ones also the guy is a very good boxer to me however yet again my opinion. But saying he needs to examine the brits? have to laugh at you there. We're just as bad as each other im technically a brit but i don't see the whole point in whose more biased just extreme beliefs and point of view from both sides is what i believe. Both you and us like to believe we have the best fighters at times whcih isn't allways the case but at the same time don't take away from a fighter what he has achieve as me and you couldn't do itMy point is Joe is just a boxer,an ordinary boxer nothing more.

u need to take a reallity check pal no one is comparing Haye to Joe that is not what the thread is about ,Tunney & yourself just thought it was a good idea to dismiss chiyoko because he is a Haye fan & he is criticising JoeBecause we think Joe is better than Haye? That's ridiculous. Haye has done well at cruiser, but his competition was not that stiff, so I'm waiting to see what he does in future. At Cruiser he is the best in the world, and well done to him. why cant he discredit Joe and be a Haye fan ? one of his favourite fighters does not have to better than Joe Calzaghe before he can criticise him or be a fan of Haye
see this is the type of stuff that pisses me off proper nuthuggery

OK, more reasonable this time, but still! You essentially seem to expect Joe Calzaghe to fight and defeat nothing but prime champions! You are literally trying to discredit his entire career! As I have said elsewhere, every elite boxer faces a great many boxers not at the elite level, it is the nature of being elite. The time we found out that fighters like Reid, Woodhall, Veit, Mitchell, Brewer and Lacy were not at the elite level was when they fought Calzaghe, who was.My point is Joe is just a boxer,an ordinary boxer nothing more.
The way his fans want to elevate him to legendary status is what I disagree with.It seems to me like some British guys are so short of success that they will try to amplify mediocrity to superstardom.

Every single boxer faces fighters like these and worse, check Hopkins and Jones records and you'll see exactly the same thing. I am in broad agreement with the spirit of your post, but rather than saying that Calzaghe is an 'ordinary' fighter, you should be saying he is a 'very good' fighter, and then extend that clasification to fighters like Winky and Hopkins, Jones I concede was something special. I have never described Joe as a legend, but he is, indisputably, one of the best boxers on earth right now, and one of the best ever at his weight. That doesn't make him some sort of superhuman, just a 'very good' boxer.Comment

I wanted to add one more note. I think most of the fans in Europe are as cool as hell. Since the internet came to life. I have gotten the opportunity to watch fights over there and let me tell you, they really know how to package a card over there and make it an event!
I watched a couple German fight cards recently and they really know how to package up a fight card well. They give it a great atmosphere with singers, light shows etc and really know how to attract the casual fan.
They need to do that here to get interest back. Boxing will always be boxing, but some flashy packaging will help the casual fans i think.Comment
