It was great, except for the decision.
Anyone else really enjoy Julio-Smith?

julio showed ishe too much respect and never really pulled the trigger on his bombs.
and smith fought to causiously landing more flush blows but way too fewer.
a lot of similarities to the cal/hop fight.
i had 3 even rounds. julio 98-95.Comment

It was an OK fight, nothing I'll particularly remember by the time the next live televised fight graces my TV screen. It was more entertaining than Smith's loss to Powell last year, though it's not really saying much.
I thought the scoring was fair, well at least the 96-94 cards. 97-93 sounded a little too wide, giving too much credit for Julio's activity even though neither fighter was landing much of anything.
Julio looked very amateurish out there. For a supposed fire-breathing power-puncher, I wouldn't even argue that he landed the more telling blows in the fight.
Same old story for Ishe, does just enough to make life difficult for himself come scorecard time. I swear he fights that way just so he can ***** about getting the short end on the scorecards. Super nice guy, but teetering on an extreme waste of natural talent.Comment

I though Smith won 5-4-1 is how i scored it. Very close fight. I was surprised of the work rate of Julio. Didn't think he'd be as active. And when Smith boxed him Julio keep his cool but more important he keep punching. Smith needed to use that jab more and he could have walked away with that fight. I gave the 12 to Smith.Very good technical fight. I scored it 7-5 for Julio. Smith is a slick as$ dude. Julio might not look as smooth or as sharp, but if you watch close he has a lot of good moves and defense himself. Julio tends to overextend a lot on his shots he should work on that, and Smith needs to throw more punches. Not many clean punches landed by either. Smith landed some nice hooks and Julio did some good body work. Very tough test for Julio, but he passed and now hes on his way. Julio proved he has a lot of technical skills, we already no the power is there. I dont think he will run into many guys like Smith. Hopefully he will get his fight with Verno Phillips. As for Smith, he needs to realize he needs to be more active in the ring. Hes got tons of talent he just needs to get it together.
on a side note, i wouldnt be surprised if Smith tested positive for steroids. Did you see the vains in his arms?Comment

From Smiths record I'd say his problem is his manager or lack of manager. He fought 2 tough fighters early in his career on in which was Estrada and won them both. I think he needs to be able to work on his abilities to maximize them but he needs a good promoter who will feed him fights that he will win and can develope his skill set and put his skills together. It was an OK fight, nothing I'll particularly remember by the time the next live televised fight graces my TV screen. Im saying Smith seems like a fighter that is being rushed and not cared for as a fighter with a future would be. I think if Smith had somebody to look after him in a management way, then he'd develop a lot better. He's still young in his boxing career. And he has skills. I just think he's taken on tough fight after tough fight. Instead of develping his style and allowed to work on his style or what needs to be practiced in a pro fight.
In other words he needs to be allowed to develop. Leave the tough fight alone for awhile and practice in the gym then in the next fight. Then after a few fight step it up. Thats what Julios management have done. Hes a differnt fighter now. Still raw, still now ready for a title.
One Julio starts pressing, fighting his way inside, stepping out, putting real mustard on his punchs you'll now he's ready. I think he needs practice on his punching technique.Comment

Thats why i betted, lol.
I wanted to see if Julio had developed better if at all and he has but still a work in progress.
I bet you Julio v. Chavez Jr. would be a very good fight one that Chavez Jr. imo can probably win. From what i've seen from both fighter they both are still developing but chavez already has some snap on his punchs. Julio's punching technique isn't that great but improved and he can really be a threat in welterweight division.Comment
smart ass!
