I think so, he was able to take Torres and Zab Judah and Mosely's power. Even if he gets hurt he knows how to survive. This will be an amazing fight they are both pretty closely matched up its a pick em fight. Margarito got the height and chin, they both have about the same in the power dept. Cotto has more boxing skill and seems to be able the adapt and change his style when need be.
Will Cottos chin hold up to Margaritos power???

I need to go back and watch the Mosley fight before the Margarito fight takes place to see what shakes Cotto up. Cause I kind of remember Cotto backing up to box in that fight, and I do think it was out of caution on Miguels part. I remember that, and I remember Cotto's hand speed when he started to box Mosley up.
So from that, I'd take into consideration that Mosley came down from living at 154, which was a slower version of Mosley, and the steroid abuse which probably even slowed Mosley down even more. And I'd take into consideration Mosley really had to dig down to make the fight close with Miguel, I mean he really had to try and force that handspeed out, It didn't just flow out of him like it use to. Collazo took Mosley the full 12 in his first fight back down to 147. And that version of Shane had Miguel back up to box his way to victory.
Now Tony, he's been living at Welterweight, and I think unlike Mosley...Tony's punches, as unorthodox as they are, are still more sharper and fresher then Mosleys. I mean you get tagged by them, it stings.
Look at every fight he's been in since the first Cintron fight. Clottey got battered against the ropes to the head and body, Clottey litterally froze up in the later rounds after takin those shots, I know his hand was hurt, but he did get shook up. Look at the later rounds of the Williams fight, Paul ate some shots and almost tipped over. Cintron just fell to a body shot. And Tony litterally beat off Lujans ear a few years ago. When Tony can land, it ****s you up. But it's just so easy to make him miss.
Now with Cotto's lack of reach, I think him and Margarito is too close to call just because I do think Margarito can floor Miguel.Comment

I don't want to shock anyone here, but my answer is no.
Cotto's chin is a big, big problem. People know that he was hurt by Mosley and Judah at 147 - but what they may not realize is that he was buckled and stunned by Carlos Quintana and Alfonso Gomez - yes, Alfonso Gomez!
Gomez caught him square a few times.. Once Cotto's arms flared out in a shocked reaction, another time his legs wobbled and his upper body tilted. It's like he has some sort of disorder or disease.
Cotto does not like to be hit. He is not good whatsoever at taking punches, and when Margarito fully exposes this reality people are going to be devastated. Me, all I will do is cooly and quietly sip a glass of lemonade when the time comes. There will be no surprises here. Just fond admiration for Miguel Cotto, and his ability to keep his secret for soo long - and his accomplishments so grand, despite his vulnerability.
Cotto's Boxing ability is pretty good and is mobility is also better than average - but not anywhere near where it would have to be stay out of Margarito's kill zone for 12 rounds. No where near.
Personally, I'm angry that Bob Arum and Top Rank are setting Cotto up like this. It's disgusting. They know what's going to happen.
Cotto and his team will tape both the right and the left like they did his left against Gomez for this one.. You won't be able to read "Cleto Reyes."Comment

Good insight. ^ This ain't gonna be close though.Comment

I don't know, Miguel could show some crazy footwork that we haven't seen yet. But at the same time, Miguel isn't Miguel without his hooks, which make the distance way too short between the two, which benefits Tony. lol It's litterally too close for me too call, but you could be right...it might end up not even being close. Tony might steam roll this one out.Comment

Do you recall what rounds Cotto stunned? I have both Gomez and Quintana fights, I'd like to check that out.I don't want to shock anyone here, but my answer is no.

If Cotto had a chin - well, that doesn't even matter - all anyone has to do is look at the Clottey fight or the second Cintron fight. Josh Clottey threw the kitchen sink at Margarito. He hit him with the kind of punches that you see on knockout reels.. Clottey was pounding the **** out of him upstairs, downstairs, and Margarito went absolutely nowhere. It was like that scene in Independence Day when they tried to use the nuclear weapon on the ship and they looked again after the smoke had cleared. Nothing, no damage.I don't know, Miguel could show some crazy footwork that we haven't seen yet. Cotto does have his equalizers to some extent in terms of his unorthodox taping and torso bludgeoning - but when you look at it realistically that shouldn't be enough to make Margarito disappear instantly - and that's what Cotto would need. He would need a sudden KO to the body, and when you look at Cotto's record the guy hasn't vanquished hardly anyone with one shot body blasts.. That's not what he does. He's going to need time to work on Margarito and guess what Margarito will be doing while that's happening..Comment

Yes, in the Quintana fight Cotto was stunned by a straight left just before the bell in the 1st round. You can see him wobbling on his way back to the corner. In the Gomez fight he was wobbled at roughly 1:45-1:40 or so of the HBO clock in the 5th round against the ropes.Comment

How the hell do recall this so quick? You're the man. I'm going to have to check this out tomorrow morning, it's almost 4am I'm feeling wobbly myself.
