PS: Well done for possessing the ability to read a novel and reply with your comments within 4 minutes.
I didn't read any further then the "Odds stacked against Joe Calzaghe" part and that was enough to know where you're going with it.

First of all, FRKO, there is a reason that Calzaghe looked bad. It's because this is the first time he was up in class this high. He was fighting a truly world class, multi-dimensional opponent for the first time ever, and it showed. Calzaghe is a good fighter, but he is an impatient fighter, and he's not willing to let the action come to him or play artsy-fartsy. He'd rather dive headfirst. Against a stronger puncher, or a younger fighter - with all his reflexes, with skills equal to Hopkins, that would been deadly. Joe Calzaghe showed us his limits, but he may be the wiser for it. We will find out if he fights again.

Secondly, this subject is getting beat to death, my friend.

Thirdly, have you watched the fight again? Without rose-colored lenses on? Have you looked at the exchanges in slo-mo? I have found all of the shots where Calzaghe made contact, and I could make a little clip of them - but it was still very, very few. He simply was not making contact. He was hitting Bernard's shoulder, the back of his head, and his hips all night long, surely - but he was not scoring very often. At all. Natas said it was hard finding clips of Calzaghe landind for GIFS?? Yeah, well it was hard to score rounds for him for the same reason..

The problem is that not enough people, or the judges, scored even rounds when it was clearly warranted. Calzaghe was coming forward yes - but if you aren't LANDING there is nothing anyone can do for you. And Hopkins was scoring, but he was backing up. Those rounds should have been scored even, that is all you can do REALISTICALLY. That's what even rounds are for. People did alot of bull**** improvising in their scoring. They didn't know what they were looking at. It's a ****** situation. It's no wonder there have been soo many problems.

So, essentially, what you're saying is all the odds were stacked in Joe's favor?

And did you make any bets that Bernard would beat Joe?

And did you hear Bernard himself make any issues about his age?

Did age come into the equasion when he beat Wright and Tarver aged 40+?

YOu don't know the issue until a 43 year old man steps in the ring and shows us what he got. An inactive fighter at that. He clearly had better days in that ring. The 43 year age showed.

And as Addison put it.........it still was an ugly hard to score fight despite what the punch stats say. I sure didn't see alot landing on either side.

It's all good, I respect your opinions, but I'm sticking with my breakdown and nothing you guys say will change my mind.

Addison, yes, I've watched the fight about 7 or 8 times.

Didn't Hopkins throw like 630 punches in the Wright fight?

Isn't that almost twice the number he threw in either Taylor fight?

calzaghe case for victory= hopkins was clinching, faked a low blow, and only threw one punch at a time. excellent case for a calzaghe win.we all know these are proper scoring criteria for judging boxing. do i have to remind you guys?

                      1. effective clinching
                      2. crying about low blows
                      3. missing punches
                      4. WINDMILL!
