I say Jones because I really see no way Pavlik beats Calzaghe. Styles make fights and Joe loves a come foreward guy who will mix it up with him. Roy poses a bigger problem for Cal IMO with his speed, experience, and his (albeit diminished) talent.

That video is footage of Jones at his best. I am one of the few that thinks that even prime Jones had a weak jaw. This guy was the only one to catch him and his legs turned into jelly. Since his reflexes, foot work and foot speed have slowed, he will be caught more often since he is exposed.

Say what you want but I think that Jones would be a harder fight for Calzaghe then Pavlik.

I actually agree with this. I think Calzaghe would pick Pavlik off reasonably easy. He can keep up with Pavlik in terms of stamina, he could take Pavlik off his game, ruin his jab and be difficult to hit with the right hand. Being a crafty southpaw would make it very hard for Pavlik to win and I honestly believe that it would quite a large UD for him.

Jones on the other hand would still have enough power and speed to get in a few counter right hands that could at least stun Calzaghe, and while some strange people think Hopkins could have KO'd Calzaghe, which is just complete tripe, Jones could make it interesting as he would still be bigger and stronger. I do also think that Calzaghe has basically lost all his power because of his screwed up hands which would make it even more interesting.

Calzaghe would need to pressure Jones from the out-set and fight very smart without getting tagged by many right hand counters and he could win it but I think it would be a much more interesting fight than Pavlik/Calzaghe.

Calzaghe VS Pavlik is a fun fight, & one I'd like to see.

Both are high volume, offensive minded fighters with great determination.

Pavlik has youth & probably power, as Calzaghe's hands are pretty shot.

Calzaghe has experience, the better defence, & the more range.

Should be a good fight, with plenty of action, & although I'd favour Calzaghe by about 3 to 1, he is reaching the end of career, & Pavlik may have a few more gears to him than we've seen yet, which will add to the suspence.


However, do not think Arum is interested in putting Pavlik in against Calzaghe for the forseeable future, & Leow neither, inspite of all his talk.


A Jones match isn't quite as interesting to me, but is still a good fight.
Jones's body does seem to have recovered fully from his earlier debacles, & although he isn't what he was in his prime, he seems to of adjusted finally to his new circumstances with a lot of smarts.

How much do both of them have left;
Will Calzaghe underestimate Jones, & does Jones have a lot more left in the tank than people suspect?

An interesting match, & potentially a pretty good one, as Jones is still mostly a slick offensive fighter.
