        Calzaghe: Low blow deliberate!
Joe says Hopkins is a cheat
WBC/WBA/WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe admitted to the London Daily Mail that he intentionally hit Bernard Hopkins low in the second round of their fight Saturday, but says Hopkins was faking it in the tenth when he went to the canvas from an apparent light shot below the belt from the Welshman. "What a crap actor," said Calzaghe. "He looked like he'd been shot in the balls, not hit. When I hit him there in the second round, that was proper deliberate. He'd knocked me down in the first so I had to give him a dig, didn't I? But the tenth — that was a lie, that one.....he's a cheat. He took three minutes off when I didn't touch him and he needed a rest. Joe Cortez should have been firmer. Hopkins is just a spoilt little girl, isn't he?"
Calzaghe also told the Mail, "I felt all along [Hopkins] was all mouth. He was a bully and they don't like being bullied. I could tell at the weigh-in he was
worried. I said to him, 'This is your last fight, this is the end for you now' and he didn't say anything at all."
        Tuesday, April 22 2008"-*********

If it wasn't for Hopkins, Calzaghe wouldn't have the great win on his record that he has now. The trash talk should stop after the fight, especially in the case of an old great who is leaving the sport. Its nothing against Calzaghe's fans, its against him.
        Calzaghe didn't exactly "kill" Hopkins...

That's the thing. Hopkins dug his own grave. He'll always be respected by a few faithful fans who overlook his faults, but he is never going to get the general respect of the public or even the boxing community again.

He's going to be publicly taunted, even in his hometown. You remember the guy who lost the tennis match to Billy Jean King? You remember what else he did?

          .

He probably does deserve respect though. I think his longevity is something historians will be impressed by. The average fighter isn't fighting top 5 p4p fighters at 43. Your right though, it seems he is disliked. Maybe that will change as time goes on.

Yeah Truth of course he deserves respect.

I'm taking this too far, but the point is he made his public image, now he will live with it. He's not going to be recognized as a sporting hero. Even in his ESPN interviews he was hateful and racially instigating. Then he lost. So he will live with that.

Boxing fans will remember him for his longevity, and for beating Tito and Oscar but going 0-3 against Taylor and Joe

I'd be very surprised if Joe said that to be honest.

Why should Calzaghe have to respect Hopkins? I mean, really? Kessler and Lacy were far classier in defeat and at least both of them came to fight.

Hopkins embarrassed himself with all the pre-fight crap he came out with, his ego far exceeding any remaining talent. Respect is earned and legends don't run backwards for 12 rounds, clinching at the first sign of an incoming blow. What a dire spectacle he made it, that will be his legacy. The spoiler, the anti-boxer. Will anyone miss him?

Bernard Hopkins is a dirty fighter and an ignorant person. I don't think I could show him any respect in Calzaghe's shoes either. He's just way too big of a ****.
