This article is trash, another calzaghe d**k rider. Neither Calzaghe or hopkins hurt eachother, calzaghe punches are like slaps. Joes face after showed who was really connecting. I like both fighters but neither did anything to really show who is the better fighter. Joes antics helped him win because he was showing off making it look like he was winning when he really wasn't

I disagree with the author's opening statement of Hopkins getting his "butt kicked." I can think of more credible instances of people getting their "butt kicked" than was the case with Hopkins, who didn't have a mark on him after the fight.

After the early rounds Calzaghe adapted his tactics; he chased, he initiated the action, dictated the tempo and landed more punches and your saying that he lost??? and btw yaman the only profound skill bernard showed was his acting skill!!!
You're saying Hopkins WAS a great fighter, but not anymore. Ok, good job discrediting Calzaghe's victory. But I don't agree with you.
Not this runner bull again. You were already losing me with your first comments and now you're using the arguments that the 12 year olds on this site use to discredit fighters like Mayweather and Hopkins. This is what counterpunchers do. I do not think you and other people like you have really seen many other fights from Bernard, because this is his game.
And if you don't think Hopkins showed any skills in that fight then you're either completely new to Boxing and/or do not understand the skills involved, or you're too biased to look at it in any positive way for B-hop. Hopkins relied on pure skills and style. He doesn't have the speed, durability and stamina from his younger days anymore. Tell me, if Hopkins was so terrible then how come Joe Calzaghe had one of his toughest fights in his career coming out with a split decision?

Hopkins lost
Joe Calzaghe beat Bernard Hopkins. It's as simple as that. You can call the punches slapping all you want but I am 100% sure that those punches hurt. Kessler was noticeably hurt by the punches and many other fighters were hit just as bad by the punches. For those who say the Calzaghe only slapped, let me ask you this: IF Hopkins wasn't hurt by Calzaghe's punches, then why did he run the entire fight? Against De La Hoya, Tarver, and Wright, Bernard Hopkins came forward. Against Eastman, Taylor, and Calzaghe, Bernard Hopkins ran away. Coincidence? I think not. After all, Calzaghe's a come forward fighter, wouldn't it make sense to back Calzaghe up?
The truth is that Calzaghe fought a perfect fight. Calzaghe was clearly the smaller fighter but he made the best of it by backing Hopkins with shorter, more compact, fewer, but more accurate punches. Believe it or not, that's how you beat a speed fighter. You don't try to counter from the outside where his hand-speed beats you all night. You get close and throw numerous short punches to disrupt his game. Hopkins was moving all night and Calzaghe treated him like a speedbag, not a heavy bag. It was a VERY smart fight and Hopkins was clearly disturbed. Hopkins waited all night to counter and never really got the chance because Calzaghe threw very few big punches. The right hand in the first round caught Calzaghe as his balance was slipped up. Hopkins cleverly leaned into him and threw a PUSH-punch as Calzaghe was standing square. It was clearly a slip and you can see it if you watch the fight again. Hopkins' best punch was the right hand at the end of the round that froze Calzaghe for a second.
Hopkins knew he lost the fight. It's sad that he can't fight like a man anymore. While he's certainly physically capable, his overblown ego won't let him behave like a gentleman. The white boy comment might have been to sell fights or cause psychological damage, but his bad acting job on the two low blows seriously damaged his image in my eyes. Hopkins held during the entire fight and used every opportunity to throw illegal punches and "cheat" when things didn't go his way. This is something that I've said before and I'll say it again. It was very possible that Hopkins would be arrogant by thinking he had the fight won and not give any extra effort to ensure that the round was his. He made this mistake before against Taylor and he did it again. What the hell did he expect?

The fact that it was a SD and we are still debating who won the fight tells us one thing: at 43 and way past his prime B-hop made it a close fight, even scored a knockdown. Imagine what would have happened in his prime? My estimate Cal would not make it past the 5th round.

Calling this a 'push' is a bit of a stretch as well.Last edited by TheGreatA; 04-22-2008, 02:02 PM.
