Yo marsman, i just wanted to check that we saw the same fight. This thread is about the Calzaghe vs Hopkins landslide - are u sure that you saw the fight?? My opinion of Hopkins is that he should have retired after the second Taylor loss, i dont credit him at all for beating a washed up Tarver and I felt that he simply embarrassed himself in this fight RETIRE HOPKINS YOU WASHOUT!!!!!

Bernard Hopkins: An Unsportsman-like Flopper

I don't think anyone should question how good hopkins was in his prime, if you do? I think your being ignorant and should watch more video on him because he was an awesome...awesome fighter. But the same goes for calzaghe he is NO longer in his prime but still found a way, i thought he clearly won my score was 115-112.
Hopkins has notoriously been a bad loser, he is a terrible sportsman. Can't believe he didn't even shake calzaghe's hand before he left the press conference. Really went down in my estimation, if he believes what he said that the people would decide who the real winner is and he didn't have a problem with it, why does he have antimosity with calzaghe?
Bottom line is he is full of ****! For how intelligent he is in the ring, i don't think he is good at scoring fights in his head. In the taylor fight he pulled this same ****. He needs to realise that if you lose 8 rounds and dominate 4 rounds like he did against taylor you don't win the fight thats not how scoring works. He also lost this fight by giving up too many close rounds, and got tired then tried to cheat his way to victory.

Somewhat of a redicilous, biased article apart from Hopkins being "unsportsman-like"(Although I did not hear Calzaghe give Hopkins credit except for saying he was a great fighter. Hopkins did say he respects Joe, but I would agree with him here).
And he should know that those "232" punches weren't exactly effective either since he keeps talking about Hopkins' ineffective punches. Hopkins came out of the fight without a scratch. The compubox stats aren't accurate at all, and definitely should not be used as the MAIN argument as to who won a fight.
For example one guy connects with 100, the other 200. The first guy's punches are more accurate, skillfull and EFFECTIVE than the other. Activity in this case should not be used as the main argument, and they sure as hell don't tell the whole story of a fight.
He like many other people are exaggerating everything.
Hopkins was the more profound boxer in the match and made him look like an amateur at times, so he could say he gave Joe a boxing lesson in a way.

Hopkins won the fight clearly, even is one thought it was close. Joe didn't do anything meaningful to take the tittle. If it was Hopkins go got knocked down in the first.I'd have no problems giving Joe the decision. But Hopkins biggest mistake was not finishing Joe, after mking his "Whiteboy comment" No way in hell will the judges of any european decent not try to teach Hops a lesson.

champ and yaman you guys are looking for a reason to give the fight to hopkins - theres no doubt that he was a great fighter.....WAS. If u watch it again from a neutral position its clear that all he does for the majority of the fight is run is ass off. After the early rounds Calzaghe adapted his tactics; he chased, he initiated the action, dictated the tempo and landed more punches and your saying that he lost??? and btw yaman the only profound skill bernard showed was his acting skill!!!Last edited by thiskind; 04-22-2008, 11:38 AM.

Both guys are beyond their best years, so the old-age arguments can go away.
Bernard's best was finished after the first four rounds of the fight. Then again, when has Calzaghe ever started really fast? Once he figured out what Hopkins was doing, he got comfortable, and was the only fighter in the ring not on a bike. In fact, he was practically dancing with his hands low come round 10, and it was evident that Hop was falling behind or he never would have looked for a breather. Joe's punches started causing sweat to fly from Bernard's balding head, and he even put him off balance a few times.
If Calzaghe's punches weren't effective, Hopkins wouldn't have gotten so tired and had to resort to seeking breathers. Especially after weeks of hearing him claim that he's got the cardio to go all day because of his new fitness trainer. Those punches were more effective, and Joe was far stronger at the end of the fight, while Bernard was gassed.
Oh, and when the judges are scoring the rounds, they aren't reading Compubox numbers. Nobody has claimed that Compubox stats prove Joe's victory. And it was a victory.
Did anybody notice how cool Roy Jones was to Joe Calzaghe in the interview? That's class. And Calzaghe complimented Hopkins multiple times. What kind of an arrogant jerk stands up there and says, "I can honestly say that I have never been beaten in my career" like Hopkins did? He lost this one. It's nothing to be ashamed of; even a 36-year old Calzaghe is a great fighter. Hopkins will be in the Hall-of-Fame. He should leave people with something about him to enjoy.
