Hopkins is a hard fighter to look good against. He leads with his head and holds all the time. He is the master of hit and hold. Calzaghe clearly won the fight but as for the fight itself it wasn't pretty. Hopkins can sell tickets, he'll fight again. Don't be surprised to see Hopkins vs Taylor III in the fall. Bernard Hopkins is not a big draw at all! His fights are only well attented because his opposition are much more popular than he is. In his fight against Oscar who did the fans come to see?? In his fight against Trinidad who did the fans come to see?? Against Calzaghe the ticket sales were really slow moving and even then the crowd was mostly Brits making the long journey across the pond! Hopkins fans were outnumbered in their own country!! He is a fantastic fighter but I personally don't consider him a popular / fan friendly fighter.

i thought Hopkins made Calzaghe look awfull & IMO Calzaghe is massively overated based on what i saw against B Hop i can only imagine how bad a prime James Toney would have made Calzaghe look ,a guy who was a defensive genious

A fight against Hopkins certainly shouldn't be your yardstick on whether a fighter is overrated; he cheats and illegally and intentionally stops your style. The ONLY way Calz couldve won the fight is the way he did and THAT is why he deserves credit. As for a fight against a Toney I think he would struggle with the same issues he did with Roy, speed and distance work.

I called the fight almost exactly right, I said Calzaghe will likely win 116-112 with Hopkins being the agressor early and possibly getting a knockdown due to Calzaghe being off balance.

Hopkins couldn't sell much despite all the talking. The tickets too were beyond overpriced.

As far as hard to look good against Hops for all his hug and hit never slugged Calzaghe in the balls. To anyone who thinks hopkins was 'faking' I invite all of you to line up against the lineal super middleweight champion of the world and take a hit to the balls and see if you don't want to curl up in a corner and vomit much less get 5 minutes of recovery.

Some validity in this, let's not forget, whom has been so effective against Hopkins, to break his supreme defence to the point Joe managed to land the most punches on Hopkins he's ever had.

Too easily to go on visuals and not on stats. Joe was patien and in his own words, grinded him down. A clever and patient fighter.

I think you've largely invented that Terrible, or at least exaggerated. Ricky was right and did say those things, and hasn't really discredited Hops that much, to the contrary of what you've said. He's asked to substantially prove otherwise with quotes and you haven't been able to. Perhaps your just looking at the avatars of Joe and inventing this mindset.
