agree with one of the posters above about hopkins being a eally hard fighter to beat - since RJJ hopkins doesn't lose by a wide margin. the 2 taylor fights were touch and go and hopkins has a real awkward style not to mention constantly faking low blows (which gave him a breather just when he needed it) and looking for head butts.
all in all hopkins is one of those fighters that joe will just have been happy to beat remeber this was his american debut and his first fight at 175.
the performance may not have been great but i can see a fight against pavlik in wales happening - if not then RJJ.
did anyone else thnk the first round KD ws not really a KD, hopkins hits joe but joes legs dont go and his eyes dont seem fazed, to me it seems as though hopkins lands the right and then forces joe cal down.

Totally. That's how it was. Good punch, but not enough to hurt Joe. Bernard came forward with his head and I'm pretty sure he pushed Calzaghe down. I need to see the fight again to be sure.
Calzaghe won the fight. I had him ahead on the cards....probably by two points.
But did he impress American fans? Can Joe headline a PPV in his next fight, or will he need a big name?
Honestly I think so, I mean hardcore Hopkins fans will say no, but lets be honest about the fight last night, Hopkins is done, I mean there was a time of which Hopkins would go after his man when he had him down or hurt, that didnt happen in the fight.
What did happen was you saw and old man who had a bag full of old tricks and he tried to emply each of them but they just didnt work against the younger fighter. when have we ever seen Hopkins look to the ref for help?
The only thing bad about last nights fight was not the performance of Calzaghe it was the age of Hopkins that didnt allow him to take the additional steps needed to pull out the fight.
Calzaghe had Hopkins in reverse the entire night, after about the fourth round it was clear that Calzaghe was heating up while Hopkins was fading away. had this fight took place three years ago we would have no doubt have had us something much more to talk about today.
that is water under the bridge now, I think its safe to say Hopkins needs to retire he did good in the fight but that still doesnt mean he should continue to fight on, he has made some money now its time to let it go.
Nope, it was a clean knockdown IMO. Didn't matter in the end anyways.
cant help but diagree with you mate - watch the fight again, at the end of one of the latter rounds ( the 9th or 8th rnd i think) hopkins when on the ropes does catch joe calzaghe really well - the commentators say it was a headbutt but it was a right hand and joe really staggers back and loses his legs for a second.

i was more impress with his win over kessler than last night but i know joe is a good fighter that could be great i have not seen a lot of his fight so only judging from the fights i saw.

That is simply because Kessler came to fight which gave Joe more opportunitys to land better shots, last night he had a man in reverse the entire fight, a bit harder to look good against a guy who always comes in to make any fight look ugly.
I don't think Americans will catch onto him like they did Lennox Lewis or even Hatton to a lesser degree. I thought Calzaghe fought well and that the lack of clean, effective punching was the result of Hopkins' difficult style of fighting.
