Joe won by 4 or 5 rounds. You dont wins rounds by holding and landing 2 or 3 punches. Hopkins didnt do much of anything after the 4th round but hold. Not a hard fight to score from then on.

Calzaghe landed more pounches, slaps what ever anyone wants to call them than any other opponent.
He swept the board the last 6 rounds. It was close before that.
The only two fighters in the world who lift there workrate the second half a fight are Calzaghe and Mayweather. That is why those 2 are so far infront of everyone else.

Joe Calzaghe punched MORE; landed MORE; and at a higher percentage at that (according to compubox he dominated hopkins in all 3 areas).
its REALLY hard to find that fight for hopkins when joe dominated in those 3 areas and landed more on hopkins than any other fighter had done before (even more than roy jones jr. did when they fought).
After the first 3/4 rounds calzaghe began to establish his style and apply it...
by the 6/7th round he began dominating and really swept a good 3-4 rounds in a row down the stretch.
hopkins is smart and a very good counterpuncher (as you seen from the fight) but calzaghe is younger; faster; and was able to MAKE ADJUSTMENTS during the fight.
i think the fact that calzaghe made adjustments and hopkins didnt is the biggest difference in the fight beyond age.
Tonight was an ugly performance from Joe in comparison to others, and that's down to Bernard. He is an awkward fighter who can make almost anyone look untidy.

I scored it 117-110 for Calzaghe. First two went to Hopkins, the rest were clearly Calzaghe's rounds, imo. I could've maybe seen 4 total rounds going to Hopkins at absolute most generous.
I also thought the knockdown in the first was bull****. It was a combination of things. First, it was a really good counter shot, but Calzaghe was off balance (both legs were forward, his own fault), and Hopkins pushed him afterwards and I think the push caused the so-called "knockdown," more so than the punch. Put it this way, had the push not been there, I don't think Calzaghe would've went down. I scored it a 10-8 round for Hopkins anyhow.
Glad Hopkins lost. Wouldn't have even cared if the judges had screwed him over b/c they screwed Winky. 114-113 for Hopkins? Tell me that ***** wasn't sucking his **** or something.

I think the wide scores in favour of Calzaghe are a little bit off. I'll accept Calzaghe taking 7 (or maybe 8) but anything more is just as crazy as saying Hopkins won.
I'm a big Hopkins fan, but the telling sign to me was how he lost so many rounds down the stretch. I've never seen him lose that many late rounds. I think he faked the low blow to get a breather, or at least to disrupt Calzaghe because he knew he was losing and getting frustrated.

Rewatched the fight, Hopkins landed the cleaner more effective shots while Calzaghe kept the pressure on, not landing very cleanly, but slapping a whole lot which impressed the judges. Close fight, but i feel Hopkins got the better of it.
Round 1 - Hopkins
Round 2 - Hopkins
Round 3 - Hopkins
Round 4 - Hopkins
Round 5 - Calzaghe
Round 6 - Calzaghe
Round 7 - Hopkins
Round 8 - Hopkins
Round 9 - Calzaghe
Round 10 - Calzaghe
Round 11 - Calzaghe
Round 12 - Calzaghe
Hopkins win 114 - 113. Lots of swing rounds, but i prefer the man who lands the cleaner harder shots.

#1 : He was always too scared to "cross the pond" and NEVER faced the caliber of fighters Hopkins has faced in his career as a whole, so toss out half the KO's because he faced a buttload of relative "unknowns and never could be's" in building that KO and Undefeated record. He most certainly did not face anyone even close to a "prime" Hopkins.
#2 : Hopkins had more power too, and he STILL would have controlled the fight pace, Joe C. could NEVER look good against Hopkins, but then few fighters could.
I say all this, and I am not even a Hopkins fan, I don't care for his attitude, or his boxing style, however effective it has been for him...
Your comment of Calzaghe "surviving" holds no weight and comes off laughable to anyone who actually watched the fight. What an odd way to word things. Calzaghe was never visibly hurt in the fight outside of a possible flash knockdown that he showed no ill effects of, he didn't absorb any huge amount of punishment if any, was never in trouble, and constantly pushed the fight. Hopkins never took a step forward, held everytime there was a hint of an exchange, and only threw counters that failed to land at a high percentage or bother Joe. Excuse me, if I find your comment of Calzaghe "surviving" completely ****tarded and not worth any more of time.
Again, feel free to dwell on your fantasty of Joe being conquered by a prime Hopkins. A could have been that will never be. In reality, a past his prime Joe with bad hands moved up in weight and beat an old but still proven and crafty Hopkins in his first fight at 175lb on his "home turf." Responses like yours have been predcited on these very boards and it is still a damn shame Joe will not get credit for a great win. Instead, haters like yourself will give credit for Joe surviving. Give me a ****ing break.
You may not be a Hopkins fan but you sure as hell don't like Calzaghe in the least, so your claim is a pretty ****ing mute point.
