Neither of them will get credit for the win. If Hopkins wins, people will say he exposed a protected fighter.
Both of them come out of it with a good paycheck, at the end of the day, that is what really counts. People put too much stock in all this legacy bull****.
That's why it's bull****, right now this is by far the best fight for both fighters, it would be a shame to just put it like people say and not give credit to the winner.
PBF (including his fans) said Gatti is a C-Class fighter, Said DLH is ****, said Judah is nowhere near his level, so he shouldn't get credit for those wins just like Calzaghe isn't gonna get credit if he wins against B-Hop according to you right?
They don't glorify Mayweather's career by mentioning Gatti. And yes, they always say Mayweather is way better than the opponents he's facing...perhaps because it's true?
Not trying to defend Mayweather fans here(And as I mentioned earlier, they have done the same thing as Calzaghe fans) since i'm not one myself, but there is no way you can justify this huge amount of bashing towards Hopkins and then claim nobody will give JC credit.
I mean how many of Calzaghe's fans did not join the bashing of B-hops current state, last few fights, entire career, his whole legacy etc etc? Perhaps because Calzaghe HIMSELF is agreeing with it.
The line has definitely been crossed here. There's always a limit.

The main reason as to why the Calzaghe fans have been talking about B-Hop is because of what happened 7 years ago that the fight couldn't be made and the blame was put on B-Hop.
This isn't that hard to understand, just like in every fight, there is **** talking involved. All the B-Hop fans say how Calzaghe is protected, euro trash, has fought nobody bla bla.

Well you can only give so much credit to either for this fight. If Joe follows it up with a couple more solid wins against respected fighters, then he will get his place.
I mean look at Pavlik, he beat a guy twice who bested Hopkins twice himself. People look at it for what it is, they consider Pavlik a good fighter with potential. Now if Pavlik continues to fight these tomato cans that he currently has lined up, his credibility that he gained against Taylor will be lost, and he will start having to fight real opposition again to gain that credibility back. You are only rated for the guys you beat, not for potential. Lets hope Joe, and for that matter Pavlik, punctuate their careers with a string of solid wins.
I have not heard one Calzaghe fan say that Hopkins is over-rated.
I certainly haven't.
The man, regardless of whether he is a racist or a moron etc., is one of the greatest fighters of this generation and was a World Champion for well over a decade just like Big Joe.

I consider Hopkins and Calzaghe overrated at this point. Hopkins best days are clearly behind him. He has lost two of his last four fights.
If Joe beats Hopkins, it is a good win, but not a career defining win. Kessler was sort of a career defining win for him, it was a great step up in opposition. Hopkins is a legend, but clearly past his prime. Joe is still considered somewhat untested.
Joe will need a couple more big wins to cement himself as truly kickass for this generation of fighters. I am not biased against UK fighters either. He has all the potential in the world. He just has to cement his claim. There are so many who claim he is great now. I think that is premature. If he follows it up though, with fights against other good fighters in their prime, which he very well could do, he is then the man.
Hatton blew his first chance. He could have done a lot better against Mayweather if he did not lose his head in there. he got frustrated by the conditions, lost his cool and then lost the fight. Even he, has the ability to come back and be considered a great fighter. Great fighters do not get measured on their wins and losses, they get measured on who they fight, how they win and how they lose.
Regardless, Hatton still gets credit in my eyes for putting it all on the line against the greatest fighter of this generation. That took a ton of courage, and when people look back on him, they will credit him for it.
To me, you get credit for warring it up with guys who can beat you. Win or lose, you leave your mark. People will always favorably look back at Gatti, not as unbeatable, but as having unbeatable spirit. His name will always bring smiles to peoples faces.
Joe and Ricky can still make their claim, both are still within their prime and I am excited to see what they bring to the table. Ricky just needs to get his head on straight again, his next couple of fights will determine his mindset.
If Calzaghe had chosen to fight Wright, who's the same age at 36, would it be a bigger win?
Bernard Hopkins is the toughest opponent, and yet he'll get less credit than if he defeated Wright, Dawson, Taylor, Tarver or Jones since they're all under 40.
If I was his promoter, I would have chosen Roy Jones.
