Some of the racist crap said against Joe by certain posters on here has really annoyed me.

You're right, 36 year old Calzaghe will get a very limited amount of credit for his victory over Bernard Hopkins.

    If he wins, of course.

No offense, but really? Is this their logic? They are the ones that discredit this fight for Calzaghe and then they're gonna complain if no one gives credit to Joe if he wins?
      Great post.

I said 1 or 2 of those things, and I stick by them as reasons as to why Calzaghe should win, I will give credit to B-Hop if he beats Calzaghe, I will also give credit to Calzaghe if he beats B-Hop, because no matter what you want to say, B-Hop is the biggest fight he could have gotten, besides, according to your logic, basically 99% of fighters should get no credit for their big wins. The fans always bring down their fighter's opponents.

Not in this manner. The bashing on this site is very specific and the fighter himself completely agrees with it. I don't see this very often. For example, this was also happening in the Hatton-Mayweather fight. But definitely not in "99% of fighters".

And I don't see how that's a reason to let all of this pass for Calzaghe. Especially since the guy already has a very hard time getting respect from American fans.

PBF (including his fans) said Gatti is a C-Class fighter, Said DLH is ****, said Judah is nowhere near his level, so he shouldn't get credit for those wins just like Calzaghe isn't gonna get credit if he wins against B-Hop according to you right?

Amir Khan and Hatton seem to be the only Euro fighters with ballz.

Calzaghe will get respect from the people who matter, those who know the most about him. It shouldn't matter what Hopkins fans, biased US fans or anyone else says.

I have hardly seen a single opinion anywhere in the run up to this fight that says Hopkins is too old. Most agree that he is probably not all he used to be, but he has a better recent resume than most US elites, certainly better than anyone else Calzaghe could have fought, he is the Ring LHW champ and in most P4p top 10s. Forget about Calzaghe beating "a legend" or anything like that, a win will make him the Ring LHW and SMW champion, the unified alphabet SMW champion, undefeated at two weights and the man who has beaten every other genuinely credible fighter who could rival him at the current time.

If he wins he will get my respect, the respect of the boxing media, the respect of anyone capable of holding an unbiased opinion about boxing and the respect of history, plus he will still have the opportunity to go on and do even more.

Anyone who tries to take away from a win on any grounds does not have an opinion worthy of respect, and neither Calzaghe nor we should care.

Neither of them will get credit for the win. If Hopkins wins, people will say he exposed a protected fighter.

Both of them come out of it with a good paycheck, at the end of the day, that is what really counts. People put too much stock in all this legacy bull****.

How will he get no credit? HOPKINS beat WINKY less than a year ago, then TARVER six months before that. I dont think that from 42 to 43 is that big of a deal. He looks in great shape and to be honest, I think he looks better before this fight than he has before his past few bouts. If Calzaghe isnt good, than why does Hopkins need his dream team of elite trainers? What's sad is that everyone's afraid of Lacy, Calzaghe ruins him but gets no credit for the permenant damage he did. Then everyone said he was scared to fight the up and coming Kessler, he dominates him, and now Kessler was just a stand up European simple fighter. Everyone forgets that in kessler's previous bout, he dominated a fighter in Limbrado Andrade, that now many believe will be a future dominant world champion. Now ask yourself. "who's the last puncher Hopkins fought"? And before you say Taylor, ask yourself "when was his last knockout"? he couldnt even get spinks or ouma out of there. BIG PUNCHER.
