I enter into evidence Winky Wright, whom Mayweather was in talks with for a fight in 2005.
Mayweather, not wanting the size difference to be too great a detriment, wanted a day of the fight weigh-in of 154 pounds to be written into the agreement. This of course favored Mayweather, who was not a junior middleweight and would not be putting on any weight the day of the fight.
Wright, on the other hand, was a functional middleweight who had ruled 154 pounds to that point. Wright would put on 15 pounds or more overnight, as he did against Shane Mosley, and have a huge size advantage going into the fight.

Should Mayweather fight Pavlik, how much greater a size advantage in favor of Pavlik would exist as opposed to Winky Wright? My guess is a much greater one.
Still think Mayweather can handle middleweights?
