    joe at 175

is anyone else slightly worried about joe at 175, joe has said that he wasn't going to hit the weights or anything instead he was just not going to diet so hard.

now joe is a pretty big SMW but i would have thought that he would at least try and do some weights or resistance workouts to improve his power. i can see why he might not want to because he doesn't want to lose his speed which is one of his biggest assets.

hopkins has alway claimed big wins against fighters by taking them into weight classes that they're not comfortable (wright, ODLH, tito) with and hes doing the same thing here with joe.

Calzaghe's walk around weight is 190 lbs. He still has to shed 15 lbs to make the limit.

I'm not really worried, he walks around at about 190 and has had trouble making 168 for a few years so it's natural for him to move up to 175. As the Setanta guys said, he looks much stronger and relaxed physically at 175.

The idea that it enhances Calzaghe is terrifying. I'll say that much..

Yes, for me the new weight, along with being in America, are the two things that pose the most risk to Joe. I'm not so worried about him not doing weights though, I think that at this stage in Joe's career he would be foolish to attempt any major changes in physique, we are only talking about 7lbs after all.

My concern would simply be that cutting weight to 168 has been a part of Joe's preparation for a long time, and that the possibility that altering it might affect him a little or even a lot is definitely there. The key is for Calzaghe to be able to maintain his reflexes and speed, which I think are his vital assets.

Does anyone have any opinions/ examples of how these attributes are affected by moving up in weight?

I can't see how it makes him better to be honest.

But then again I've never had to lose weight to make a fight.

If I lost as much weight as Joe does to make a fight I'd be on a drip.

He definately looked weaker in last 3 SMW fights particularly. Quite gaunt

He looked like he was going to die against Lacy.

Damn someone must have made some money on that.
