Enough of the Calzaghe pickle smooching around here! I got news for you butt pirates. Work rate is a made up word. It's meaningless and relative to who you fight. History is littered with fighters that threw allot of punches who got there asses kicked by guys who threw less or matched them until they dropped them. From the fights we saw this year with Juan Diaz and Paul Williams to one I remember vividly with the pocket Rocket and Daniel Zaragoza. This is a fight where a 40 year old cigarette smoker beat a young guy that was supposed to be a whirlwind of punches. Work rate is just a word Calzaghe fans cling to. If Calzaghe throws 1000 punches a fight 500 of those punches are less then pitty pat. In fact they make pitty pat look like thunder. All the guys he beat so far he could of beat without bothering with those little slap taps.Comment

All bull**** aside, both men are great Champions and Hall of Famers. I know I've talked **** about Calzaghe previously but only to those who were not giving Hopkins his respect. When nuthuggers get out of line, I like to step in to be a counter-balance to that, whether it's Calzaghe fans, Pacfans, or Mayweather huggers.....
That said, I see this fight being like Hopkins/Taylor 1.
Calzaghe will throw the flashier punches in bunches, Hopkins will block a majority of them with his fists and counter effectively with the straight right down the pipe all night long. Hopkins activity level needs to be higher than it ever has been in order for him to make a case for his victory in a round-by-round basis.
If he simply counters and engages the way he did Taylor, Joe will win the close and controversial decision. He cannot allow himself to be put in that position again, since most people still think Hopkins won the first Taylor fight, he cannot make that mistake again.
Even if he's blocking 60% of Joe's punches, the judges will give Joe the fight simply because he's throwing, it doesn't matter if he's landing or not. Judges these days favor aggression, which blows to be perfectly honest. I think punches that are blocked shouldn't be awarded the way judges these days award them.
Then again, those old ****s have horrible eyesight so anything lands the way they see things.Comment
