What Can Mundine Do As A MW?

Dan Rafael included this in his column

"If Miranda-Kessler comes back together, it could be for a vacant belt, because Anthony Mundine, who will defend his WBA title against Sam Soliman on May 28 in Australia, plans to give up the belt if he wins and move down to middleweight, according to the WBA. "

Im not trying to sound like a hugger here, but MW is a division that would suit Mundine perfectly. If he can bring his handspeed and power down, he can do some serious damage in this division. Hes got great defence. So the poll is what can he do in the division?

To me i look at it this way. He has developed into a high class fighter, no one can really doubt that. He was top 3 in one of the strongest divisions in boxing at 168. With Taylor there now, 160 only has Pavlik, Sturm and Abraham.

It is highly likely that Mundine has a title shot straight away, and its most likely going to be against Sturm. But i will say this, wait for an official announcement.

All hyperthetical but interested in your views. As you know a move down in weight often leads to a lot more success especially when the division is weaker.

I'd pick Pavlik over him and possibly Abraham. He would beat the rest though.

Oh I forgot Winky too, that would be a close fight.

I was told by someone close to him, that he would only move down to MW if he had a title fight lined up, or Winky of course.

So Winky or Sturm loom large as his next fight after Soliman.

I just think this move down will be perfect for him.

I'd pick Mundine over Abraham and Winky @ 168 without a doubt, he has a good chance vs Pavlik there too... I'm just unsure about how good he will be at that weight. He's been at 168 all his career and he is getting on, a step down in weight would be very strange.

He'd be top 5 IMO along with Pavlik, Abraham, Sturm and Winky (if he starts fighting as a MW again). It's not a very stacked division.

That is only if he can make the weight of course. I would be surprised if he could because he has never fought at under 168 lbs.

Yeh i think if he can bring his speed and power down there with him he can beat almost anyone. But Pavlik to me is the one guy who is the clear favourite against him.

I think he could do it easy. He said hes getting a nutritionist.

But if you look at his build in SMW, he looks normal height but very wide. Im sure he could trim down a little bit to MW.

Hes got a title fight lined up/big fight from what im hearing. Im thinking its either Sturm or Winky, so just waiting for an announcement.

I,d take Taylor over him also , for mine Choc looked not so good beating Nader Hamden and Nader is not top 15 , I guarantee you Nader would get blasted out by the top 160 168 fighters like the ones mentioned , Mundine has not fought a real in form fighter since getting beat by Kessler , the closest was Green and Danny was psyched out by the occasion and weight drained , I will bet that Mundine gets beat by the first real fighter he fights , there is a reason Mundine has not fought a live one and his resume tells the story .

I dunno if i even care about mundine.
He lost all credibility throwing that fight against Ottke.
