Taylor took a ton of punishment throughout his career. Sparring plays a big part in guys getting brain damaged, and Philly is notorious for brutal gym wars.

Taylor moved up in weight a year after the Chavez fight and beat a top-rated, undefeated welterweight for the WBA title. He spoke fine in the post fight interviews or leading up to the bouts in the next couple years against guys like Ernie Chavez, Glenwood Brown (another tough fight), Norris, etc...

Hell, he didn't sound brain-damaged after the rematch with Chavez either. He was more dejected than anything, but his speech was alright.
Thank you. It's encouraging that some fans are living in reality. Some of the things I've read about that fight in the last couple of days are just pure fiction.

We have had a bunch of these threads, and no, Steele did nothing but **** Taylor out of his biggest win. Chavez got alot of favors in his career, and this was one of them.

Like I said, I've come to almost hate that HBO Legendary Nights series, despite it being enjoyable, because of the simplified nonsense that people get from it.

        Such as:

"Teddy Atlas is a great trainer willed Michael Moorer to the title"

"Ray Leonard was scared ****less of Aaron Pryor"

"Meldrick Taylor did nothing of note after J.C. Chavez, he's brain damaged simply from that fight"

And it's not only from this, but probably adds to the ignorant "Marvin Hagler was a face first slugger" myth.

I never looked at it that way, but you're not wrong.

The thing is, Chavez would not have had time to throw one more punch if Steele put him back in his nuetral corner like he was suppose to. Steele did anything but save his life, in fact he ruined it...

everyone knows when its the last 10 secs of a round.. So focussed on the time or not.. he knew it was going to ring any second. Steele ****** up, and he knows it.. was just tryin to cover his a$$ by sayin he was lookin for health of fighter.. he didnt intentionally mean to **** up.. but he couldnt change what he did.. so he made up best excuse he could for stopping a fight when a guy was beating an undefeated great with 2 seconds left in the fight.

he did have time taylor was dropped at with 19 seconds left if the ref woulda allowed taylor to continue chavez woulda have around 6 seconds to land the deadly punch and we would all be saying how richard steele killed meldrick taylor

I respect your opinion but i disagree, if you watch it again, steele waves it off with about 4 sec to go, plus chavez was not in his neutral corner at the time so steele would have had to move him back to it, this would have all but ended the fight. The official time of the stoppage was 2:58 too.

you know what I don't get why in the world is duva saying in the series they were telling taylor to stay away in the last round, when clearly you can see him during the fight telling taylor to fight his heart out?
