It will hurt if he loses cuz really it will make the Contender show look totally uncredible, these guys are supposed to be rocketed into the limelight but none have really done anything. Manfredo got big fights with Lacy and Calzaghe but loss both. Mora, the most legit contender, has been dissappointing as well and even though he is bigger looks to be the underdog against Forrest, Same with Forbes against De La Hoya, I mean if Gomez wins, his career skyrockets, on come the big paydays, the big respect, the actual legitamacy, and the star status, cud you imagine how much screen time he'll get in the next Contender season?
I'm torn I want Gomez to win cuz he never gets his credit and he actually has done something with his career unlike the other show dudes, but I do want to see Cotto-Mayweather, Cotto-Margarito/Cintron moreComment

Gomez is a lot bigger and stronger than Quintana. Gomez has been up and weight and held his own against naturally bigger fighters at middleweight. Gomez is a very strong welterweight and when they get into the ring, the size disadvantage for Cotto will be apparent.Comment

Although I disagree with "Gomez is the first real/natural welterweight Cotto has fought," Quintana is a natural welterweight, Mosley was coming down from 154 at that point after fighting much bigger men like Wright and Vargas.
But I never really realized how much of a size advantage Gomez has. He does appear a bit taller too. Hes gone toe to toe with Manfredo, who is a super middleweght. I still dont see him winning, im just curious if Cotto can KO him. That will impress me a lot of Cotto gets this guy out of there.Comment

Using Quintana as an example of Cotto fighting a natural welterweight is completely irrelevant because Quintana is a pure boxer that doesn't uses his size and strength to muscle his opponents, unlike Gomez.
Mosley is a blown up lightweight and was on steroids at the time he was at junior middleweight. At the time he fought Cotto at 147, he had stopped taking the steroids and showed his natural small frame. Gomez will be the strongest fighter that Cotto has fought and it will be no walk in the parkIf Gomez goes to Cotto's body like promised, then it could be interesting.Last edited by slicksouthpaw16; 04-09-2008, 05:59 PM.Comment

Thats your opinion. You want mine? Mosley and Quintana are both stronger than Gomez, much better fighters as well.

Gomez by decision. he will box and put angles on miguel for the first 6 rounds, he will fade late but come back to win rounds 10 and 12 and will win 115-113. Gomez wins rounds 1,2,3,5,7,10.12.Comment

SOUNDS LIKE YOU TRYING TO CONVINCE YOURSELF.He wants to win so bad, i mean soooooooo bad. But sometimes one guy is just better than the other and thats that. Cotto is classes above him. If Gomez was fighting anyone else I would want him to win but he aint taking this one. Cotto is going to punish him. I just hope Gomez doesnt take the loss too hard.Comment
