"1989-05-21 : Nigel Benn lost to Michael Watson by TKO in round 6 of 12
Location: Majestic Ballroom, Finsbury Park, London, United Kingdom
    Referee: John Coyle

Benn has punched himself out and was knocked out by a jab. "

That should answer your question ^!LOL

A headbutt beat McClellan, not Benn.

If Watson's jab could knock him out, Pavlik's would decapitate him!!

Which headbutt? They were flying in from both sides, something people seem to forget.

Michael Watson was a very good fighter, a better technical fighter than Pavlik. Pavlik wouldn't be able to box him the same way Watson did.

You forget that Kelly does not have the style nor the skills to do what Watson did to set up Benn for that ending...

Kelly would pressure him, wear him down and stop him.

I'd go for Benn, i don't really rate Pavlik that highly just yet. Personally i think Abraham would beat Pavlik

If Pavlik makes it out of the early rounds, then he would stop Benn late because he has far better stamina and late knockout power. Benn has lost fights because of him gassing out and that gave his opponents their shot at stopping him. He would be worn down by Pavlik's body shots and work rate. Pavlik's punches are straighter and precise and will get there quicker than Benn's wild hayemakers.

The only time Pavlik was seriously hurt in his career was when he dropped his hands against Taylor. The Zuniga knock down wasn't that bad, it more nerves than anything. Pavlik has a great chin and could take what Benn has to dish out, as he has fought two of the divisions hardest punchers in Taylor and Miranda. Pavlik has too much, chin, stamina, power and diverse arsenal for Benn to handle.

              Pavlik by late stoppage.

slicksouthpaw16 ,i have to disagree on this one bud

the Benn from Eubank 2 was a different animal than the fighter that lost to Watson & Eubank 1st time around ,when Jimmy Tibbs came into his corner he adopted a much more illusive style & used to use up less steam in his fights ,i thought he beat Eubank 2nd time around & he gave McClellan fits with his style McClellan was struggling badly to avoid Benns shots & he was also having trouble nailing Benn with a clean shots IMO

Pavlik is tall but he nulifies his Height IMO by trading inclose & staying in punching range ,i see Pavliks height being a disadvantage because he would be easier to hit ,the bigger u are the more target thier is to hit

Benn can be nailed but the best way to find Benn is by letting him come foward & popping him with the jab and following up with the right hand like Eubank did like McClellan did in 8/9 round like Anthony Logan did when he put Benn down & Galvano hurt him with a a 1 2 in thier second fight when Benn was walking him down ,i cant see Pavlik conceeding ground to Benn

Benn from Eubank 2 was hard to nail when he was on the back foot aswell with that bobbing style ,Pavlik would tire himself out missing with his big right hands ,Benn was hard to hit because he ducked below the waist line towards the floor and most fighters are'nt used to dealing with fighters that do this

I'm leaning towards Pavlik. It's tough to call though. I like Pavlik's physical advantages, and I think he would get him late. Pavlik would keep backing him up. I think he would be able to withstand the first few rounds, but ultimately he'd catch him.

                  headbutt??

yea there were headbutts but that,s not what hurt gerald, if you look at where benn was knocked through the ropes and got back in, gerald came to finish benn off and that,s where he got caught by a massivepunch forearm to the head and after that he wasn,t the same... just look very close, he began to hold the back of his head....

I really hate mythical match-ups because they will never happen. So why waste time arguing either side, it will never be known.
