Floyd Mayweather, regardless of whether you like him or not is a SUPERSTAR!!!!! He is bringing attention to the sport of boxing with a damn good marketing team who has put Floyd's face on Dancing with the stars to Wrestlemania...like i said you might not agree with the way he conducts himself out of the ring or you may find him to be boring, cowardly, or whatever, but that's his style & it works for him... SO HELL NAW FLOYD ISN'T BAD 4 BOXING! He isn't the best ever or the savior of boxing, but he is doing a good job of gaining interest from the casual sports fans & that's what it is all about...Bringing more eyes to the sport, so we can bring boxing back to the "mainstream"Last edited by Boxinguru; 04-04-2008, 03:46 PM.Comment

he's good for the sport overall.
he's the p4p champ who is loud; ****y; selfish...
so not only is he the p4p champ but he draws attention to himself (more than majority of fighters do) and thus attracts attention to the sport (from non-fans and casual fans alike) and his attitude draws people to buy his ppv's whether because you're a fan of his or you hate his attitude and want to see him beat...
either way it still puts butts in the seats and earns big ppv numbers.
its good for the sport as a whole...Comment

you guys keep spewing the same bull**** without even explaining HOW. like a broken ****ing record. its like an auto-reply.Floyd Mayweather, regardless of whether you like him or not is a SUPERSTAR!!!!! Damn, why is it every time I post something about Floyd you have to reply with some bull-****? I'm not a "Floyd-Boy" that thinks he's GOD & can beat every fighter in history, so don't come to me like that!
The question was; is he good or bad for the sport... I said he's bringing new eyes to the sport by his appearances & participation in various events...is that not good? He's putting up record ppv #'s is that not good? I think people get 2 caught up in what he says, & you shouldn't b/c he contradicts himself all the time...Comment

the helped get some attention but it hasnt revived boxing. yes, floyd is out on the world doing whatever he can to get some eyes on HIM, not boxing but HIM. the casual fans who have seen mayweather fight arent impressed by his fights. as soon as something happens that casual fans dont like, they just toss it away. if floyd really revived boxing, he would have gotten longterm customers for boxing. wrestling fans are not longterm customers. housewives that watch dancing with the stars are not longterm customers. its ridiculous to think that casual fans are now watching boxing again because floyd is doing everything BUT boxing.
Now, where Mayweather is lifting boxing’s profile at all, this is commendable. But he mostly seems to be lifting himself, generating unhappy comments from an HBO executive about how Mayweather’s flirtation with mixed martial arts was bad for boxing. (Note: I haven’t been able to hunt down the link to the story where this was said, but I recall reading such comments.) And I was heartened when he gave back to boxing monetarily, footing the bill for an amateur tournament in Michigan. Everyone knows American boxing needs to do a better job of nurturing its amateur scene. I hate to denigrate a $140,000 contribution, because anyway you cut it that’s a good thing to do, but Mayweather not so long ago spent several thousand dollars throwing money at strangers on a dance floor. That kind of thing cheapens his charitable contributions, at least until they are more substantial from a guy who allegedly made $20 million for a pretend Wrestlemania match.Fans to sport? How? How are they going to be interested in anyone EITHER than Floyd? Floyd is promoting HIMSELF as an entertainer rather than a Boxer. Why would my sister be interested in watching Hopkins? Why would my Wrestling friend be interested in watching Cotto? Why would my MMA friend be interested in watching Pavlik just because of what Floyd is doing?
Explain to me how these new fans are going to be interested in Boxing itself when Floyd publicly states that he doesnt love Boxing anymore?
SOMEONE PLEASE explain the logic. SOMEONE PLEASE explain how and why people would be interested in fights other than Floyd's? Whaty Floyd is trying to do is get a FANBASE. A FANBASE is loyal. A FANBASE sticks with you no matter what. These people dont want to be Floyd fans. These people BOO Floyd because Floyd is entering THEIR world as a bad guy.
Why in the hell would these people come to OUR world?Comment

2501, I think we have a misunderstanding, that's y I said read my 1st post again! This is the same guy who said he was better than Ali, Leonard, & Robinson b/c they all lost, so you have to take what Floyd says with a grain of salt, so to speak... I understand what you're saying about him "downgrading boxing" & what not, but iIve realized Floyd says whatever sounds the best at the time...when you're the so-called "Ambassador" of boxing it doesn't help when belittle it, but like they say any publicity is better than none
I've never said Floyd brought back boxing, but even if Floyd's motives are to increase his cash flow - good for him - but in the process, (whether he knows it or not) it all falls back on the sport of boxing & I don't think it gives boxing a black eye, it just shows one of the many personalities that it has to offer!
Look at it like this, if they watched a man dancing with the stars out the ring & in the ring he left Hatton seeing stars, that's a pretty good reflection just not on him, but the sport in general...That's y I said he does more good to the sport than bad even with his loud mouthed, arrogant ways... Either way, I agree this is a ****** thread!Last edited by Boxinguru; 04-04-2008, 04:22 PM.Comment
