From the waist up Calzaghe is one of the best practicioners in the sport. And while his feet are fleet, his footwork is not the best. Certainly no match for the footwork of Bernard Hopkins. NONE.

A large part of what makes Hopkins appear to be all the things he is good is his exceptional footwork and feet placement. He's all legs. Joe Calzaghe is all bending at the waist. Joe's natural Boxing skill and fast moving/rotating torso covers all his footwork mistakes. Joe Calzaghe's legs have betrayed him on many occasion, putting him out of position and in the line of fire. This is one of the reasons Hopkins has a chance to begin with.

    Paramount.
Has nobody seen Hopkins vs. Wright?

Bernard is going to be leading Calzaghe around the ring and running Joe into the end of his punches like a poodle on a leash. Watch.

I was wondering the same thing.

Expect alot of "Well, it's because of genetics and superiour handspeed, which in turn means he's faster and more fluid because he doesn't do drugs, which can be seen by his natural body because he only drinks water, which means that he's younger than his actual age and thus, making it easier to walk up the stairs to the ring which Hopkins will struggle with because of his age."

I think it could suprise and have a few fireworks it all depends on how much Calzaghe sits back, hopefully he comes forward taking some counters but winning! I think I may have been ****** in booking Hopkins for my first fight in Vegas

Calzaghe does get wild and when he starts brawling he does get out of position but when he boxes, his footwork is very good.

Exactly! What some may not realize at this point is that Calzaghe is going into this fight ultimately planning on throwing himself at Bernard. It's the only thing he can do, and it's the biggest trap in the world.

Joe will make the fight absolutely, Maj. Bernard knows he'll have to work more to stay in the fight and I think the Wright affair was a good sign that Hopkins is capable of more activity. Each man should likely embarrass the other at different points. I think the time is right. It could be exciting even!

I agree to a certain extent but I would add that it's when he's brawling, reaching, or having to work even just a tiny little bit. You know Hopkins. How much is that going to potentially cost Joe?! Bernard is going to do everything in his power to keep Calzaghe off balance and having to work, work, work. Those feet are coming out of position, plenty.

I really don't think his feet will be out of position that often. Hopkins will try to lure Calzaghe into traps to get him out of position, we'll see how it works out.

It's still Joe Calzaghe we're talking about. Joe's gonna be doing the rock-away all night. It won't be easy for Hopkins to capitalize even when Calzaghe is out of position don't get me wrong! He'll be out of position though. Part of what makes Calzaghe great is his ability to walk right into his opponents target area and lean back, lean back, lean back.

His footwork has gotten him out of trouble at times too, as long as he doesn't fall into Hopkins' traps or get overly wild, Calzaghe's footwork will be good. Easier said than done obviously.

It's been shaky against god-knows-who.. I admire your confidence.

Let's see how good it as against a grand master of positioning.
